Have You Got Your Ticket Yet?: The Currajong Disability Services Sewing Group made two unique Elvis quilts that are on display in the main foyer of the Parkes Services Club. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the Parkes Services Club main bar for $2 each or 3 for $5, and will be drawn during the Parkes Elvis Festival.
Morse Code: Members of the Sydney Morsecodians Fraternity will provide a Morse Code demonstration during the
Parkes Elvis Festival near the Westpac Bank in Clarinda Street on Friday and Saturday. Festival goers will be able to send actual telegrams on souvenir stationery to anywhere, using the same equipment that was used in the 1850s. The telegrams will be sent from Parkes to Beechworth and posted from there to their destination using Australia Post. The public will also be able to send a message by themselves printed in morse code on a monitor in front of them, or they can have their names sent by morse code.
Got the G.I. Blues?: The Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS) Parkes Aviation Museum is located at the end of Muzycuk Drive at Parkes Airport. It is housed in a former RAAF hangar from the airport’s time as a World War Two air force base. Come and see the largest aircraft on display in the Central West, including ex-RAAF aircraft De Havilland DHC-4 Caribou, Lockheed P2V-7 Neptune and recently retired Lockheed AP-3C Orion. You can also see a hard-to-find US Army Bell AH-1 Huey Cobra helicopter and several civilian types. The museum is open from 9:30am to 3:30pm today (Thursday) and Sunday, and Friday and Saturday from 9:30am to 1:30pm. Admission adults $5; family $10.
Free Entertainment: Apart from hosting the headline shows, The Parkes Services Club and the Parkes Leagues Club both offer extensive programs of free entertainment for the duration of the festival. See pages 2 and 15 for more details.
