Henry Kross returned to Parkes as the Australian Junior U17 Boys Champion after attending the Australian Junior Squash Championships which were held in Devonport Tasmania recently.
This event is held each year to crown National Champions in each age group from Under 11 to Under 19. Henry competed in the Individual Championships held from the 27 – 30 September and then the Team Championships held from the 1 – 3 October.
Henry said about winning the Australian Junior Championship Under 17 Boys title:
“There was some really tough competition in my division. I started well in the final against James Boswell, but nerves and atmosphere got to me and I went off my plan and lost focus. I was getting caught up with some rough calls and needed to regather. Mum and dad had a good chat with me after
“I really enjoy the team event, having played for NSW every year since U13’s.
NSW is managed by my dad and Parkes’ Max Jones was in Division 1 with me but got injured in the first match, and Cooper Jones was in Division 2. Division 1 came away with gold for the 3rd year in a row. Whilst Division 2 got silver.”
When asked what he has coming up Henry said: “I am super excited to have gotten a Wildcard in the NSW Open in November, so will start training towards that. I am also headed to Leeton to do some work with their juniors, play a 2 v 1 against their top 2 players in an exhibition match and do a talk at their club presentation so I am excited for the opportunity. Parkes doubles is also in a few weeks and dad and I have a title to defend.”
