Parkes Played Host To The Regional State League Team Event

March 10, 2023 By Roxane Manley

Parkes Tennis Club representatives at the Regional State League Team event included: Back row (L-R) Ella McColl, Jake Magill, Ben Isaac, Mitch Arndell. Front row (L-R) Evan Pistorius, Harvey Yelland, Asha Munodawata, Helen Magill.

On Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th March, Parkes Tennis Club hosted the first round of the Regional State League Team event. Four teams participated including South Coast, Riverina, Central West and the Southern Aces who were predominantly ACT players.

The competition consisted of three age divisions, under 11s, under 13s and under 15s, with two boys and two girls in each age division playing singles, doubles and mixed doubles over the two days.

Parkes was well represented on the courts by Mitchel Arndell and Ella McColl in the under 15s, Harry Yelland in the under v15s and Asha Munodawata and Evan Pristorius playeing for the Southern Aces team.

This particular competition is unique in that teams are permitted to have a manager sit courtside during matches. Central West team managers included Parkes resaidents, Helen Magill for the under 11s, Jake Magill for the under 13s and Ben Isaac for the under 15s.

Selection on the Central West Team is extremely competitive due to the size of the region. It encompasses the Central West as we know it, plus Hawkesbury, Napean, Penrith and the Blue Mountains in the east, to Broken Hill in the west, north to Gilgandra and south to Young.

The Parkes juniors who played on the weekend did very well to be selected from such a large pool of talented tennis juniors.

Helen Magill said, “On the weekend we saw some good tennis being played and our Central West kids finished second overall which was a great result”.

Round two of the Regional State League Team event will be held in Ulladulla on the last weekend of May.
