Folau Sisters Picked For South Western NSW Waratahs Academy

December 7, 2023 By Roxane Manley

Local Parkes sisters Alana and Joselyn Folua have both been named in the South Western NSW Waratahs Academy. This is the Academy’s first year and is a strategic move that recognises the depth of talent in these regions and reinforces the NSW Waratahs’ dedication to providing opportunities for young players to grow and excel.

Alana who is 16 and Joselyn who is 15, come from a long line of Parkes Rugby Players, starting at the top with their Grandfather Malakai, Father Tonga, Mother Stacey, Big brother Malakai. Mother Stacey Folau “I actually never thought the girls would play rugby, the first time that they did play I was really worried that they’d get hurt, until i realised that they could actually hold themselves on the field” The sisters started playing Rugby League together in 2019, but this is the sisters first year of Rugby Union togeth-er. Both girls play for the Central West team and Alana is positioned at Hooker and Joselyn at Front Row. It was while playing for Central West, that scouts at-tended some of their city and country games and both girls were selected to be a part of the South Western NSW Waratahs Academy.

The girls had their first training session last Sunday in Bathurst with the squad, they have another in two weeks time and then a comp in January. Both girls agreed that their inspiration was watching their dad and big brother play.
