Open Roads For Rural And Regional Youth
Country Education Foundation of Australia (CEF) has announced a matched giving campaign this end of financial year, and is calling on the public to donate and take advantage of this opportunity to help open roads for rural and regional youth.
Any gifts made during the campaign will support national pro grams and resources to empower regional youth to unlock their full potential, with all donations made to CEF matched up to a total of $500,000 until 30th June.
In 2023, approximately 82% of CEF supported students did not receive financial support from family and 40% were ineligible or did not receive government assistance. Additionally, 46% were work ing more than 15 hours a week on top of full-time study, just to make ends meet.
CEF Chief Executive Officer Wendy Mason explains, “This demonstrates a clear gap in the assistance regional young people are receiving to undertake post-school education and why the work of CEF is so critical, particularly as the cost of living continues to rise.” “This matched giving campaign is an incredible opportunity to raise much needed funds to support our national operations, to grow the impact we have on the lives of our rural and regional youth,” said Ms. Mason.
CEF is a national for-purpose organisation committed to enabling equal access to further education and career opportunities for rural and regional youth. “We believe wholeheartedly in the potential of our regional and rural young people, and we need the help of the community to provide them with the support they need to achieve their dreams,” said Ms Mason.
Salvation Army Address The Closure Of Rosedurnate Aged Care And Retirement Village

Rosedurnate Aged Care Centre and Retirement Village was opened as a hospital in 1929, transitioning to an aged care facility in 1967.
After a comprehensive strategic review, The Salvation Army Aged Care will divest its two residential aged care services in Central West. The Moyne Aged Care Centre in Canowindra and Rosedurnate Aged Care Centre and Retirement Village in Parkes.
The Salvation Army Aged Care’s National Director, Stephen Macliver AM, said the decision to divest services in Central West NSW was very difficult.
“We are pleased to announce that Roshana Care Group will assume the ongoing operation of Moyne Aged Care Centre from 28 June 2024, Sadly, we were not able to secure a similar arrangement for Rosedurnate Aged Care Centre and Retirement Village, it will close in the coming months ” Mr Macliver said.
Mr Macliver said a comprehensive assessment of the Parkes site found it no longer met the needs of residents and staff due to the age of the buildings and would require significant investment to bring them up to the high standards they deserved.
“We will be working closely with aged care providers in the local Parkes area to ensure continuity of care and support for residents,” Mr Macliver said.
“We understand this may be unsettling for some of our residents, their families and staff, but we will do everything we can to make the transition as seamless as possible.” “I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank our valued staff at both sites for their commitment to providing our residents with the very best care.”

NSW Health Apology Plaque To Be Installed At All Health Services In Western NSW
Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD) will install plaques in all health facilities to acknowledge the grief and suffering NSW Health, its hospitals, and health facilities caused to members and survivors of the Stolen Generations.
The plaque will contain an inscription of NSW Health Apology which was made by Secretary Susan Pearce AM in 2022, to recognise the deep trauma caused by removing Aboriginal children from their families and communities. It also recognised the removal of children often took place in hospitals or other health institutions.
WNSWLHD Chief Executive Mark Spittal said the first plaque will be installed at the District’s head office in Dubbo on 24 May, with local events planned at all 45 hospitals, health facilities, community health centres and offices over the following two weeks.
“Our health services should be places of comfort and healing, where all people feel safe, respected and cared for,” Mr Spittal said.
“Through our services and ongoing commitment to improvements, including those identified in our own Reconciliation Action Plan, we aim to achieve this for Aboriginal people.
“We are supporting the installation of the Apology plaques across every health service in our District because we aspire to be an organisation that is accountable to our Aboriginal community, is an active partner in reconciliation and which strives to do better for Aboriginal people at every level of our organisation,” concluded Mr Spittal.
