Parkes Phoenix

Bridge Banter

January 21, 2022 By Maggi Barnard

Congratulations Val! Parkes Bridge Club member Val Worthington turned 97 last week. She celebrated the auspicious occasion with fellow club members.

We are excited to be back at the bridge tables and have kicked off Parkes Bridge 2022 with fun and celebration.

Our very dear Val Worthington turned 97 last week and we couldn’t let such an auspicious occasion slide by without festivities. To be so sprightly in mind, body and soul is something that many a younger person would aspire to. I wondered if perhaps I could glimpse the secret of eternal youthfulness by asking Val how she stayed so young. With her characteristic cheeky smile and twinkling eyes, she replied: “Well I can’t tell you the secret because you’d only broadcast it in the papers, and then it would no longer be a secret.”

However, Val did slip in one piece of great advice for all of us: “Always have a positive outlook.”

Our bridge winners this week were Suzie McNamara and Beth Thomas on Thursday, 13th January; Tim and Gai Baker on Monday, 17th January.

If you are interested in learning to play bridge this year, we can arrange private lessons. Call Greig Ball 0429 621 712 or Kevin Robinson 0429 621 712 to arrange personal lessons at your own pace.
