Parkes Athletic To Host Inaugural Pa Games

Parkes Athletic (PA) is set to launch its first ever PA GAMES on 2nd November. Inviting all local fitness enthusiasts to come and wit­ness an exciting functional fitness competi­tion. The event will run from 8am to 2:30pm and will featuring 27 teams of three athletes, with participants hailing from across the Central West, including Forbes, Bathurst, and Dubbo, as well as interstate from Co­bram, Victoria, competing against local PA teams.

The competition will kick off at McGlynn Park at 8am before moving to the PA gym at 42 Alluvial Street at around 10am for the remainder of the events. Athletes will com­pete for big cash prizes and various awards, adding to the excitement of the day.

Spectators are encouraged to attend and cheer on their local teams, making this a community event like no other. With a fo­cus on camaraderie and competition, the PA GAMES promises to showcase the best of local talent and foster community spirit among fitness enthusiasts. Come join in on the fun and support our athletes, you may be inspired to join the PA crew.

Parkes Golf Club

The Parkes Golf Course for the inaugural Grand Final Cup day, sponsored by pro, Zac Kelly, saw 56 players compete in a 2 person Ambrose. Scratch winners: 67 Mi­chael Thomas and Sam Standen. Nett win­ners: 61.75 Matthew Spedding and Cam­eron Standen. It is only a couple of weeks until registration closes for the Super 10s competition this summer. Parkes Services Squash Courts is extreme­ly excited to be hosting a Level 1 Squash Coaching Course on 26th – 27th October. Opportunities like this are rare, so please take advantage of it. Parkes And District Netball Association

One week to go to register for our Junior and Senior 2024 Spring Comp commenc­ing 15th October. Registrations are open at playhq.com under Parkes District Netball Association. You must have registered and paid before taking the court in week 1.

Parkes Little Athletics Club 

Over the last week, Ryker and Vashti com­peted at All Schools and they absolutely gave it their all. Ryker got silver medal in the 400m, and was a finalist in the 200m. Ryker will now go to Australian All Schools in De­cember in Brisbane. Vashti got a bronze medal in Javelin throwing a PB. Vashti also competed in shot put, discus and hammer throw, getting a PB in hammer throw also.

The Kathleen Hutchison Bench Seat: Kath was keen to show her appreciation for our wonderful ladies bowlers after they did an outstanding job catering for her 100th Birthday celebrations earlier this year. As a result we now have the addition of a new bench seat at the entry of our club.

Congratulations to Brendan Guy and Chris Summerhayes on becoming the clubs newest life members. They were voted in life members at a special meeting and we couldn’t think of 2 people more deserving of the title. Thanks to these two for everything you have done and continue to do for the club, we wouldn’t have the club we have without these guys around.

Parkes & District Amateur Soccer Association Inc. 

Go Parkes Vipers! Coached by our own President, Wayne Osborne, this team is taking on Forbes Foxes in the Men’s LASA Grand Final this Sunday. Support our local team featuring 9 Parkes Junior players. So, if you can, make it to Forbes to support the Vipers.

Parkes Railway Bowling Club

On Saturday 7th September the 20 keen players for Social Bowls got to watch the State Over 40’s Pairs while they rolled up the top. Winners were Alan Affleck and Rob Hill winning 16+16. Runners Up were Mike Valentine and Toby Tanks winning 15+13. Third Place went to Peter Job and Ray Grif­fith winning 15+4.

Parkes Little Athletics Gala Day

Parkes Little Athletics Club stars included Esther Williams, Alice Williams, Jason Mol, Toby Morgan, Haiden Hodge and Ellie Tattersall,

The Parkes Little Athletics Club held an extremely successful Gala Day on Sunday, 12th March at Northparkes Oval. Approximately 150 young athletes travelled from as far as Cobar and Gilgandra to compete. 

Athletes aged from six to 17 competed in a wide range of track and field events and the ‘tiny tots’ were also able to join in lots of fun activities. 

It was amazing to see so many athletes coming together to compete, have fun, support and encourage one another. There were smiles all around as records were broken, personal bests achieved, medals awarded and new friends made.

A huge congratulations goes to the Parkes Little Athletics Club committee members and all helpers who made the such a huge success. 

Parkes Little Athletics Committee President, Kerrie Edwards said, “This years Gala day was one of the best. I’m very grateful for all who contributed, as there were so many. 

We appreciate those who travel and look forward to seeing you all again next year.”

This weekend, Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th March, Parkes Little Athletics will have eight representatives competing in the Little Athletics State Championships at Sydney Olympic Park in a combined 17 events. This is a huge achievement and will be a great experience. We wish them all well and know they will do their very best.

CWCU Monthly Sports Achiever

Central West Credit Union (CWCU) are pleased to announce the latest recipient of the (CWCU) Monthly Sports Achiever Award. A big congratulation goes to Andy McMahon, who is the award recipient for December, 2022

Andy is a 10-year-old Forbes Public School student who is an exceptional athlete, representing his school and community at many levels of competition. Some of his very impressive accomplishments include:

Forbes Public School Achievements

• Junior Boy Age Champion for athletics

• Lachlan District Athletics representative in 100m, 200m, senior boy relay, high jump and long jump

• Qualified as a member of the Western Cross-Country team

Forbes Little Athletics Club (FLAC) Achievements

• 10 Years Boy Age Champion

• Represented FLAC at the State Championships in 70m, 100m, long jump and high jump

Andy was also a member of the U/10 Magpies Junior Rugby League team that were Minor Premiers in the competition.

What a fantastic all round sports person and an asset for the local Forbes sporting community, we look forward to following your future sporting endeavors. Keep up the great work Andy, we are sure to be hearing more about you.

Three National Medals For Trundle Champs

Two Trundle para-athletics champs shone at the School Sport Australia Track and Field Championship in Brisbane last weekend coming home with a haul of three medals.

Toby Morgan is the national champion winning a gold medal in the 800m for 10-year-old multiclass event for boys, whileIsabella Skipworth won a silver in discusand bronze in shot put.

It was an amazing experience for the two students where they made lots of new friends and incredible memories. The opening ceremony was last Thursday and ended with a closing ceremony on Monday. The participants also had an opportunity to access equipment and technology utilised for talent identification for the 2023 Olympics. A fun part of the event was swapping pins with competitors from other states, which they then wore on their hats.

Toby is a student at Parkes East Public School, and Isabella attends St Patrick’s Primary School in Trundle.

Great Event For Parkes

Parkes hosted the two-day Zone Little Athletics Carnival last weekend with up to 370 participants from all over the region. The athletes came from Ballimore, Cobar, Condobolin, Coonabarabran, Coonamble, Cumnock, Dubbo, Forbes, Gilgandra, Gulgong, Gwebegar, Mudgee, Narromine, Orange, Three Rivers, Walgett, Warren and Wellington. The event was officially opened by Member for Orange Phil Donato MP. He said Little Athletics played an important role in developing not only physical skills but also life skills.
