Ladies Bowls

Round one of the Club Singles Champion- ships took place this week with 27 bowlers. Rhona Went defeated Cherie Frame; Maree Grant defeated Heather Harvey; Robyn Morgan defeated Gwenda Carty; Jan McPhee defeated Maureen Miller.

The second round of the Club Major Singles will be played on or before 10th March.

Results of social games:

Lynn Ryan, Helen Heraghty and Brenda Davies played consistently in front of a cheer squad and were too good for Jean Kennedy, Chris Curteis and Joan Simpson.

Carol Reed, Merilyn Rodgers and Lea Orr lapped it up over Julie Green, Kate Keogh and Maureen Baillie.

In a game of pairs, Kay Craft and Lorraine Baker collared the opposition and had a win over June Burgess and Elaine Miller.

Off the leash at last, Valmai Westcott, Ann Norton and Frances Charlton escaped to the top green and enjoyed a game of consistency.

The District Singles Championships were held in Forbes last week. Brenda Davies did our club proud in her match, while Maree Grant finished as runner-up in the final.

Cool Weather, Great Bowls

The cooler weather saw 25 bowlers on the greens this week at the Parkes Bowling and Sports Club. President Merilyn Rodgers welcomed two new members, Ann Norton and Salva Harris, and enjoyed a game of Consistency with them.

Eileen Bradley and Jan McPhee had a close game with Carol Reed and Heather Harvey: 15 all. Di Howell and Betsy Johnstone defeated Kim Evans and Chris Curteis: 24 to 12. Jean Kennedy and Maureen Baillie defeated Lorraine Baker and Lea Orr: 20 to 12. Maureen Miller and Maree Grant defeated Maja Iffland and Robyn Morgan: 20 to 13. Kay Craft, Gwenda Carty and

Rhona Went were too good for Julie Green, Frances Charlton and Joan Simpson: 27 to 6. Lucky winners, Jan and Eileen, and runners-up, Carol and Heather, shared the spoils. Lucky 50 club winners were Maja, Eileen and Carol.

Nominations for Club Championships Singles close next week. The District Singles is at Forbes from 11 – 13 February. Good Luck to Maree and Brenda.

Tuesday, 11th February Social roster – June Burgess. Call Kim or Gwenda between 8:30 and 9am to play on 6862 1446. Play begins 9:30am.

Bowling Singles Champ

Cold Snap On Bowls Day

It was a surprising little cold snap we woke to on Tuesday!

Twelve lady bowlers braved the elements and enjoyed the morning regardless of the brisk cross wind.

Two games of two-bowl triples were played. Kate Keogh led her team of Valmai Westcott and Carol Reed to a 24 – 21 win over Merilyn Rodgers, Frances Charlton and Carol Reed II. Lorraine Baker, Chris Cox and Audrey Jones played a close match against Jan McPhee, Di Howell and Lea Orr, resulting in a 17-all draw.

The semi-final of the minor singles will be played next Tuesday, 12th November with Jan McPhee vs Lea Orr. The winner will go on to play Maureen Miller the following week in the final.

The first round of the minor pairs will be contested on 26th November: Heather Harvey/Jan McPhee vs Lea Orr/Kay Craft; Carol Reed/Kate Keogh vs Di Howell/Maureen Miller.

Our Pink Gala Day last week raised an astounding $1,041 for the McGrath Foundation. A huge thank you to everyone involved.

Thanks also to the dedicated guys who keep both greens in tip top condition. You are noticed and appreciated.

Pink Bowls

It was a wonderful day of bowls on Tuesday with 14 teams playing all dressed in pink.

Teams came from West Wyalong, Forbes, Condobolin, Orange City and places in be- tween. A very generous amount of money was raised for the fight against breast cancer.

The raffle winner was Betsy Johnstone, second prize went to Chris Curteis, and third to Audrey Jones.

In the minor singles Maureen Miller defeated Lorraine Baker in a close game. Maureen will now play the winner between Lea Orr and Jan McPhee.

Club Champ Triples Crowned

The final of the Club Championship Triples was played this week with Maureen Miller, Hilda McPherson (sub for Maree Grant) and Pat Cooney taking the title.

They defeated Gwenda Carty, Cherie Frame and Rhona Went in a very close game all the way. The score ended up 18 – 15. A great shot by Pat on the last end took the win away from the runners-up.

In social games played Di Howell, Merilyn Rodgers and Rosemary Mitchell defeated Margaret Hawken, Frances Charlton and Kim Evans. Kay Craft, Valmai Westcott and Brenda Davies defeated Jean Kennedy, Jan McPhee and Joan Simpson, while Audrey Jones, Chris Cox and Flo Riseborough defeated Carol Reed, Chris Curtis and Marja Iffland. Winners for the day: Kay, Valmai, Brenda and runners-up Jean, Jan and Joan.

Forbes won against Parkes in the Cannon-Merritt Cup and took home the trophy.

Weekend Pennants was won by Forbes with only one point between Forbes and Parkes, a very social time was had by all involved.

The Classic Triples will be on 24 – 25th August and helpers are needed please.

The Taber Shield will be held at Parkes on 19th September.

The Club Championship Fours open on 20th August and close 12pm on 3rd September.

Four Games Of Triples

Four games of triples were played this week with Betsy Johnstone, Flo Riseborough and Liz Byrne defeating Carla Bishop, Hilda McPherson and Marja Iffland.

Ann Wright, Rosemary Mitchell and Lorraine Baker defeated Jean Kennedy/Eileen Bradley, Laurie Keane and Heather Harvey.

Carol Reed, Valmai Westcott and Gwenda Carty won their game against Kay Craft, Frances Charlton and Kim Evans, while Di Howell, June Burgess and Cherie Frame beat Lea Orr, Maureen Miller and Jan McPhee.

Winners for the day were Di, June and Cherie, and runners-up were Kay, Frances and Kim. The raffle winner was Lea Orr. Thanks to Lea for the June birthdays’ Pavlova!

The First Round of Club Triples were played this week with Maureen Miller, Maree Grant, Pat Cooney defeating Chris Curteis, Jan McPee, Kim Evans. Di Howell, Eileen Bradley, Rosemary Mitchell defeated Merilyn Rodgers, Margaret Hawken, Marja Iffland.

The next Round to be played on 23 July is Maureen Miller, Maree Grant, Pat Cooney versus Di Howell, Eileen Bradley, Rosemary Mitchell. Gwenda Carty, Cherie Frame, Rhona Went have a bye.

The Cannon-Merritt Trophy will be played at our club against Forbes on 31 July, with the following teams. 1) Lea Orr, Maureen Miller, Merilyn Rodgers; 2) Kay Craft, Heather Harvey, Marja Iffland; 3) Eileen Bradley, Di Howell, Jan McPhee. The Classic Triples will be held on 24-25 August.

In two social games played, Hilda McPherson, Lorraine Baker defeated Carol Reid, Cherie Frame; and Kay Craft, Betsy Johnstone defeated Frances Charlton, Brenda Davies. Winners for the day Hilda and Lorraine and r/ups Merilyn, Margaret, Marja.

A great Trading Table was held with winners in the Raffle being Hilda and Carol.

PWBC Championships Coming Up

Two games of triples were played following the fog on Tuesday morning. Di Howell, Hilda McPherson and Kim Evans defeated Rose Howlett, Maureen Miller and Merilyn Rodgers. Ann Wright, Chris Curteis and Marja Iffland defeated Heather Harvey, Lea Orr and Lorraine Baker.

The draw for the Club Championship Triples to be played on or before 16th July as follows: Bye – Gwenda Carty, Cherie Frame, Rhona Went; Di Howell, Eileen Bradley, Rosemary Mitchell versus Merilyn Rodgers, Margaret Hawken, Marja Iffland; Maureen Miller, Maree Grant, Pat Cooney versus Chris Curteis, Jan McPhee, Kim Evans; Betsy Johnstone, Brenda Davies, Liz Byrne versus Heather Harvey, Audrey Jones, Joan Simpson. Umpire Gwenda Carty.

The Cannon-Merritt will be played at Parkes on Wednesday 31st July against Forbes, Teams as follows: 1) Lea Orr, Maureen Miller, Merilyn Rodgers. 2) Kay Craft, Heather Harvey, Marja Iffland.3) Di Howell, Eileen Bradley, Jan McPhee. Established Player, New Patron

Three games of Pairs and a Triples game were played in great conditions this week. Hilda McPherson and Marja Iffland defeated Eileen Bradley and Audrey Jones. Lea Orr and Gwenda Carty defeated Lorraine Baker and Flo Riseborough. Kay Craft and Maureen Miller defeated Di Howell and Kim Evans. Frances Charlton, June Burgess
and Merilyn Rodgers defeated Jean Kennedy, Heather Harvey and Rosemary Mitchell.

Winners on the day were Kay and Maureen, and runner ups were Eileen and Audrey.

Club Championship Triples close on 9 July and matches will commence on 23 July. Our CWD Fours team will play in the Districts Playoffs in Orange on 23 July.

Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held this week with the Election of Office Bearers as follows. President – Merilyn Rodgers; Vice President – Maureen Miller; Secretary – Betsy Johnstone; Match Committee – Kim Evans, Marja Iffland, Brenda Davies; Selection Committee – Audrey Jones, Robyn Morgan, Di Howell; Committee members – Chris Curteis, Jan McPhee,  Minnie Riordan, Kay Craft, Lorraine Baker; Communications Officer – Rosemary Mitchell.

Central Western District (CWD) and Canobolas District will be amalgamating early 2020 and we will all be called Central West District.

We also have a new Patron of our club, Joan Simpson, who has played bowls at our club for the last 52 years and is still playing regularly. To play social bowls ring Table Selectors Gwenda Carty and Rhona Went between 9-9.30am.
