Golfers Battle Weather On Charity Day

Despite extreme weather conditions a good field contested last Sunday’s Westlime/Ro- tary Charity Golf Day with 85% of the field completing the 18 holes battling strong winds and a deluge.

Major winners on the day were Robert Hey, Dean Powter and Warren Gardiner in the open scratch award surviving a count- back after recording a great 6 under par 65.

In the men’s 18 hole handicap victory went to Brian Hogan, Peter Picker and Ian Phi- pps on 56 5/6 nett. Runners up were Warren Blatch, Tim Burke and Tim Baker on 59 2/3 nett. The Ladies 18 hole handicap saw Sue Holman, Colleen Staples and Ann Jennings get the verdict after recording a 60 5/6 nett. The handicapped and non-handicapped section had Paul Thomas, Finni Latu and Brendan Chambers take the spoils just ahead of runners-up Brad Blanchard, An- thony Riach and Steve Nicholson, and third place going to Mick Smith, Robert Simp- son and Eddie Alexander. The final division strictly limited to non-handicapped players saw Glendon Hooper, Pat O’Connell and Ian Coombs get the spoils, while runners- up were Kap Pili, Matthew Wright and Phil
