I would firstly like to thank the emergency services, Essential Energy and Council crews for their outstanding efforts in responding to the impacts of the severe flash storm in Parkes last Friday evening. They have worked around the clock to ensure services, roads and facilities are cleared and restored. It was pleasing to see such community
spirit displayed as neighbours and friends assisted those badly affected by the storms. What a great community we live in.
Motorists please be extra vigilant as crews continue to clear debris from the road. Residents are encouraged to nominate deserving people for a Community Award. Each Australia Day, Parkes Shire Council recognises, rewards and encourages outstanding community service by individuals, groups and events. Nominations are open for the 2017 Parkes Shire Council Community Awards, with nomination forms available for download from Council’s website, www.parkes.nsw.gov.au.
Demolition of the old Parkes Hospital has reached the halfway mark, with five out of the nine buildings being pulled down. The project is well on track to be completed by mid-December. The Parkes Shire was showcased at two major events in Canberra. Parkes Shire Council representatives attended the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia
(CMCA) Rally and the Canberra Home & Leisure Show to promote Parkes Shire as a weekend getaway destination. Congratulations to Nikki Fallon from Kambah in the ACT who won the Parkes Elvis Festival Package.
Remember to get social during the Colour Parkes campaign. Share your favourite images of the Shire with us via Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. Use the hashtag #Colour- Parkes and tag @ParkesTourism to stand a chance to win a prize.
Have a safe and enjoyable weekend.
Yours Faithfully,
Cr Ken Keith OAM
Mayor of Parkes Shire
