Mayor’s Column…27th May

May 26, 2016 By Maggi Barnard

Another month is wrapping up and winter has certainly arrived.

Council has expressed concern about the number of break-ins and vandalism to the old Parkes Hospital site. As part of the agreement with Health Infrastructure, Parkes Shire Council has taken full control and responsibility of the old hospital site with approved contractors to commence work next month and practical completion of the project scheduled for November this year. We appreciate the community’s patience as we safely demolish the site and commence rehabilitation

Next Saturday 4 June is the Back to Bulgandramine Cultural Gathering. There is free entry and lots of activities for the whole family. Enjoy music and storytelling, Aboriginal astronomy, traditional food tasting, Wiradjuri dance and language, performance on Saturday night, children’s activities, including crafts and face painting. Further details on Council’s website.

We are on the count down to the June long weekend and the Parkes Picnic Races. This year’s event will be held on the Saturday 11 June. The committee have an actioned packed day planned with gates opening at 11.30. You can purchase entry tickets at the Visitor Information Centre, 141 on Main or the Railway and Cambridge Hotels.

Have a happy weekend.

Yours Faithfully,

Cr Ken Keith OAM
