Maurice Davey
How long have you lived in Parkes and what do you like most about living here?
I have lived in the Parkes Shire all of my 59 years. I really enjoy my interaction with the community, so it’s the people I value and like the most.
Where do you work or what do you do currently and what do you enjoy about it? I’m a fourth generation farmer at Alectown, and enjoy working with my family to produce food and fibre (most of the time…when it rains).
What is your favourite thing to do when you have free time? It’s a toss-up between a barbeque on the back verandah with family and friends, or music and drama. (I had a ball playing grandpa in the Parkes M and D production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.)
What makes you proud? My family and our Christian heritage. Our forefathers’ commitment to Godly government and values in society, eg Henry Parkes, and my own family’s commitment to do the same in our community.
What is your all-time favourite movie, song and/or book, and why? Movie: Being a grandparent ‘Toy Story’ is right up there. Very clever humour that appeals to all ages, and great animation. Book: Dietrich Bonhoeffer – German theologian who stood against the German war machine in WW2. I am inspired by stories of people with great convictions and the courage to act on them.
Tell us about your best holiday. A week at Manly with our family watching the grandchildren discover the beach, ferries, trains, lifts and escalators (just to name a few).
What is on your bucket list? Visit Uluru, and possibly a change of profession… maybe politics!
