Our Children Are Like Stars

December 13, 2019 By Maggi Barnard

The Tulloch and Fisher families in front of the photos of their boys, Isaac and Nic. They are (L – R) Simon Tulloch, Kayla Ward, Judy Fisher, Mandy Tulloch holding her grandson Oscar, Laura Tulloch and Tony Fisher.

The Compassionate Friends Annual Candle Lighting night was held last Sunday as part of the 24-hour Worldwide Wave of Light to remember and acknowledge children who have died.

Approximately 80 people gathered in Lions Park to share a special evening together with the lighting of candles, listening to readings and music and sharing memories of their children. The Christmas tree adorned with photos of the children held pride of place.

The theme this year was ‘Stars’ based on the idea that ‘our children are like stars in the daytime… they are still there but we can’t see them at the moment’.

Families from Blayney, Orange, Sydney, Canowindra and Forbes joined the local families. Christmas is a very difficult time for bereaved families and gathering together to share their love, to support each other, and embrace their children helps to ease the sadness.

The special Christmas tree with the childrens’ photo. Isla Brooks is there to remember her big brother Charlie.
