Window Myths Busted

June 22, 2017 By Maggi Barnard

There are several myths when it comes to windows. Glassplace can help you sort the fact from the fiction.

Myth: You need Council or planning permission to replace windows.
Fact: Replacement of existing windows and doors does not require a planning permit, unless your home is heritage listed.

Myth: Windows don’t have any effect on energy efficiency.
Fact: Experts estimate that up to 70% of energy is lost through windows and doors, and 90% of this heat loss occurs through glass.

Myth: Double glazed windows work best.
Fact: Double glazed windows work well in hot and cold climates, however low-E glass works just as well. Also known as Pyrolytic, Smart glassTM, or Comfort PlusTM, it works in three ways: it reduces direct heat radiation from the sun; it reduces the hot and cold energy transfer between the inside and outside of the window; and the tinted version cuts down glare.

Myth: Anyone can install windows.
Fact: Not everyone can install windows correctly. Poor installation can result in leaking, drafts and difficulty opening and closing.
