The Early Bird Has A Stress Free Christmas

October 27, 2016 By Maggi Barnard

download-2

The count down is on; it’s only eight weeks until Christmas! It’s the most wonderful time of the year – but also one of the most stressful! As Christmas approaches life seems to get more hectic. The hustle and bustle can be overwhelming so make the season more enjoyable by stopping stress in its tracks and get organised.

Christmas parties are a great way to celebrate, so book it in now to save you the stress down the track. Christmas parties are a celebration of what all your staff and the business have achieved throughout the year. It is a time to unwind and enjoy the company of your fellow employees out of the work environment and to enjoy a nice meal and a cold beverage. Local businesses are taking bookings now so be sure to get in quick to secure your spot.

It is not too late to get feeling and looking great. Everybody wants to look their best on Christmas day so take action now. Sign up to a gym, walk to work or even just park further from the shops. Every little bit helps and it will not only help you drop those few winter kilograms, it will also make you feel great moving around again.

With days getting longer and warmer why not get some friends together and workout. Catching up with friends is a great way to burn more calories while you talk and walk. Get the kids active this summer too with lots of different classes available to sign up to. Eating well seems to always become much easier as summer approaches with so many delicious salads and BBQ recipes to try. Fruit comes into season and it’s easier to drink more water. A reminder to stay hydrated this summer season as water flushes out your body’s toxins and assists with all bodily functions.

Christmas shopping is next on the list and you either love it or hate it. So start thinking about gifts now to avoid the rush. There will be markets on in the coming months so be sure to go along as you might just find a bargain. This year try making some of your gifts, as they can be more personal and thoughtful that way. It can be as simple as
making gingerbread men to make a small gift or to accompany another. Homemade goods are always a hit so try your hand at baking or making. There are loads of ideas available on the internet.

The secret is to focus on what’s most important, remember to have fun and to do something that makes you happy.

Three Cheers To Karen’s New Book

October 27, 2016 By Maggi Barnard

fullsizerender-2

Last night was very exciting as we launched my latest book, Home Sweet Home, at a gala party at the Parkes RSL club with over 150 people in attendance to support and cheer us on. This book is very special to me for two main
reasons. Firstly after working with clients over the last few years I felt there was a real need for a handbook filled with simple to follow, step by step advice that would give you all the answers to the questions constantly asked of you while undertaking a renovating or decorating project. So hopefully with this handbook the next project you embark on won’t be nearly as scary or stressful.

And secondly, the book allowed me to collaborate with some amazing national brands, fantastic retail stores and a bevy of skilled tradesman and contractors from around the Parkes and Forbes region that are represented in the pages of the black book directory at the end of the book. Not only do you have the answers to many renovation questions, but you also have all the contact details of the people who can literally bring your building and renovating
dreams to life. I think this is what is going to make this publication very helpful.

Home Sweet Home has pages for notes as you go through each step of your project. I would love to think that it would become your best friend throughout your next project. It is available at newsagencies around the region, from my own store in Parkes Furniture One and online at www.karencreith.com.au with free shipping available.
I hope you grab your copy today and enjoy reading it!

Parkes Brings Colour To Canberra

October 20, 2016 By Maggi Barnard

Spring has finally sprung across the Parkes Shire region and the Colour Parkes Campaign will be moving interstate for the second phase of implementation. Parkes Shire Council Brand and Marketing Manager Katrina Dwyer said the campaign had resounding success so far locally. Being within a four hour driving radius, Canberra has been targeted as an emerging visitor market.

“The campaign will capitilise on Canberra’s Floriade Festival during the spring season by promoting the colourful events, attractions and experiences within the Parkes Shire.” The promotion will be supported by a tactical marketing program incorporating a television campaign on Prime 7, print and digital media, billboard signage, shopping centre advertising placement and attendance at major consumer trade shows in Canberra.

The campaign has had a fantastic reach on social media, with many taking up the opportunity to download their Colour Pass from www.visitparkes.com.au to access the special deals. “By simply presenting their Colour Pass at any of the 16 participating local outlets, locals and visitors can redeem the amazing offers which are valid until 30th November,” Katrina said. Customers are reminded to get social during the Colour Parkes campaign for a chance to win a return visit to Parkes for an exclusive tour inside The Dish.

“Share your favourite images of the Parkes Shire with us via Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. Use the hashtag #ColourParkes and tag @ParkesTourism to be in with a chance to win the prize package, which includes one night’s accommodation and meals for up to four people,” said Katrina. The winner will be chosen and notified on 1st December.

Ostini Wool Weekly Market Update

October 6, 2016 By Maggi Barnard

Further strength in the finer microns was somewhat overshadowed last week by weakness in the broader types. 19.5-microns was the pivot point with finer microns gaining 20 to 40 cents whilst the broader microns fell 20 cents.
Over the past month the finer microns have firmed slightly whilst 21 to 23-microns have lost ground, resulting in the Northern Region 19 – 21 micron price differential jumping from 25 cents in early August to 134 cents this week. Thursday provided a strong finish to the week, with all fleece categories closing in front. Lots with a low CVH found good support attracting significant premiums to the rest of the market. The skirting market followed a similar trend with finer microns holding up reasonably well. While the medium to broader microns were generally 10 to 20 cents cheaper.

Crossbreds were reasonably limited in supply but managed to post increases for the broader microns, while the finer end eased. Oddments also firmed slightly on a limited selection.

Auctions Versus Private Treaty

October 6, 2016 By Maggi Barnard

We are a month into Spring but are yet to see a break in the weather. This has lead to a slow start to property sales, as it is too wet to get onto most prospective properties. This gives us time to look at the options of auction or private treaty. In many cases there are neighbours or parties that might be interested, but it is also important to advertise the sale of your largest asset, in many cases.

These days there are many different options, from traditional newspaper to varied online advertising. Your agent will know which is best for your property. With values where they are, advertising is a small marketing cost that could bring large returns. We are constantly receiving enquiries from outside our local area, showing how much
demand there is for property from Queensland, Victoria and South Australia.

An auction may come with a definite end day, depending on whether the property sells. Auctions come with a higher advertising cost due to the need to push your property onto prospective buyers. It must also be noted that all properties are not right for auction. If your property has been on the market for a while to turn around and put it up for auction isn’t necessarily going to bring buyers out. It may be better to consider where you are advertising or how you are promoting the property’s assets.

Private treaty combined with the right marketing is a good option with rural property due to the many varied considerations, for example the inclusion of crop, sale of livestock, organisation of clearing sales and walk-in, walk-out options. It is easy to say that commission is a cost, as is advertising, but remember this is the sale of your largest and in many cases your final asset. It costs nothing to talk to us and discuss your options.

Our livestock markets have been heavily affected by the weather in recent weeks with numbers varying as roads opened and closed. The sucker market has been solid until last week when we saw numbers increase
and prices fall to between $5.50/kg/dw to $6.00/kg/dw. The weather has meant that many lambs booked in direct have been unable to be delivered and are waiting on farms for a break in the weather. Old sheep have remained strong on minimal supply.

The cattle market has seen feeder steers and heifers fall slightly while cows and heavy cattle remain very solid. We need to consider what numbers are out there waiting to hit the market. Our markets are still very good and even with corrections will still remain solid.

Southern Star Rural Bull Achieves Top Price

October 6, 2016 By Maggi Barnard

A senepol bull of the Southern Star Rural Senepol stud at Canowindra achieved a top price of $12,000 at the 14th annual 5 Star Senepol and African Hybrid Bull Sale held at Rockhampton recently. Clayton and Sarah Maynard own Southern Star. Their bull was sold to the Goodard family from Bollon, Queensland. With 81 lots auctioned, the sale grossed a total of $545,000 with an average of $7,569 and the top lot going for $16,000. Buyers came from Queensland and northern NSW. What sets these bulls apart from other Senepol bulls is that they are selected from over 500 male progeny. Selection is done whilst running on ticky forest country at Mt. Eugene, Jambin and Belmont Research Station, Rockhampton.

They have to perform on grass, adapting to heat, ticks, flies and Lantana, with minimal chemical treatment. Geoff Maynard, stud principal for 5 Star Senepol, said there had not been a better time for the cattle industry with record prices throughout the country. Clayton and Sarah also produce Senegus Bulls (Senepol Angus cross) which were all sold at the auction for an average of $6,000. The Senegus bulls are small birth weight and suited to heifer matings.
They also have many more variables that affect ease of calving, namely gestation, length, muscle pattern, and nutrition especially in the third trimester.
