Lilly Gharib, Jasmin Stonham and Rylea Bell at Isabel’s Place in Forbes.

Holy Family students Boundy Johnston and Ali Al-Maliky doing an activity at Eco Day on Wednesday.

Jayden Maloney and Brock Payne were seen out and about in Forbes.

What do you hope to learn at Eco Day?

August 19, 2022 By Maggi Barnard

Brax Nash: I want to learn why it is important to keep our earth safe and rubbish free. I think we need to look after our environment so we don’t cut down trees and make birds lose their homes.

Aidan McTiernan: I want to learn how to be friendly to the environment and how to protect it.

Charlotte Ballantyne: I want to learn more about the environment and hope to also get some ideas and inspiration for ecological art, which I enjoy making for fun. I would like to make an animal or even a poster.

What are your plans for this summer?

August 12, 2022 By Maggi Barnard

Samantha and Morgan Martin: We are keen to get out and about with our son and looking forward to the new water park opening.

Jessica Bell: I am excited to get back to the Gold Coast for a beach summer and a shopping spree.

Luke Elsley: I am looking forward to those long summer days with friends and family.

Where were you born? Peak Hill Hospital.

Were you named after anyone? My mum’s friend.

Which of your accomplishments are you most proud of? My teaching career, managing our garden and farm organically for the past thirty years and my children.

What historical moment stands out most in your memory? Watching the Moon landing.

What’s the single best piece of advice you’ve ever received? My dad always said ‘the harder you work the luckier you get’.

What’s the greatest risk you’ve ever taken? Marrying a farmer!

What are the three things you would take to a deserted island? A tent for shelter, a satellite solar phone and my husband.

If you had to spend $10,000 today, how would you spend it? Book a train trip on the Ghan.

When are you happiest? Travelling with family and friends.

Peter Giles

Where were you born? Lithgow, NSW

Were you named after anyone? No, my mum said I was the very first Peter ever born.

Which of your accomplishments are you most proud of? Making my children happy.

What historical moment stands out most in your memory? 9/11, I remember they cut Cheese TV to broadcast it live. I was devastated.

What’s the single best piece of advice you’ve ever received? Stop making money with your hands and start making it with your head.

What’s the greatest risk you’ve ever taken? I’m taking it right now…

What are the three things you would take to a deserted island? My wife, children, and an aeroplane.

If you had to spend $10,000 today, how would you spend it? Honestly. It would just pay bills.

When are you happiest? This would have to be a two-part answer: Happiest emotionally – when I’m having a picnic with the family kicking back under the sun, eating some jam and cream on scones. Happiest intellectually – talking business with like-minded people.

How long have you lived in or around Forbes and what do you like about living here? I have lived in Forbes for most of my life, aside from a few years in Orange and Batemans Bay. Family kept drawing us back home and I love the small town community.

Where do you work and what do you enjoy about it? I own and run Bright Beginnings Early Learning Centre. I am extremely blessed to work with an amazing team of educators, and our families are the absolute best. It gives me great joy watching children blossom and grow during their time with us.

What do you do to unwind on weekends? I have recently taken up a new hobby of making drinking tumblers. It allows me to destress and gives me a creative outlet.

What’s on your bucket list? I want to travel around Australia and also overseas. I hope that soon we can get a caravan and start touring around the country a bit more.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself? I was a contestant in Dancing with the Stars in Forbes a few years ago. I loved being a participant and raising funds for such a great charity.

What was your first job? Check out chick at Woolies.

Tell us about your best holiday ever? My family and I spent six weeks traveling through Europe. It was amazing to soak in all the history, and to visit family in Greece.

What value do you think the Wiradjuri Ngurambang Exhibition at the Parkes Library & Cultural Centre will bring to the community?

July 29, 2022 By Maggi Barnard

Rose Jones: It opens up a whole new world of Wiradjuri culture and history that should’ve been taught in schools years ago. It is a great step forward to create better understanding.

Kevin Bloomsfield: I love the exhibition. It will create more cultural awareness in our community and for visitors.

Amanda Corcoran: It is a visual presentation of Wiradjuri culture that will help to share it with the non-indigenous community to broaden understanding.

How long have you lived in Forbes and what do you like about living here? I was born in Forbes and have lived here all but 12 months when I lived on the Sunshine Coast.

Where do you work and what do you enjoy most about where you work? I have been employed by Forbes Mazda / Isuzu for 12 years. Having a great interest in cars, it’s perfect for me.

What do you do to unwind on weekends? Any time I can spend at an airport, in an aeroplane or flying, and also keeping an eye on the resurgence of the mighty Brisbane Broncos.

What are you really good at? Annoying Sarelle.

What makes you laugh the most? Sharpie keeps us all entertained from 9 to 5 most days.

What’s on your bucket list? To be the fitter and turner at Nicole Mary’s (Kidman) house.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself? At seven years old I was the Number One BMX rider for the Central West and competed at state and national level.

If money was no object, what would you do with your time? Nothing different than I do now, yep I’d still go to work.

What was your first job? I worked after school at Darcy Buttriss Smash Repairs, until I ‘retired’ and found my calling as a paperboy at Costello’s Newsagency.

Tell us about your best holiday ever: I surprised a mate with a Country Music cruise to Nouméa.

What social stigma would you like to see society overcome?

July 22, 2022 By Maggi Barnard

Fleur Wells at ProVision Optometrists: Any prejudice for anyone who isn’t accepted for many reasons.

Colleen Smart at Francene’s Craft: Mental Health is a real concern with recent floods and COVID. Everyone should be equal, period.

Debbie Prior at The Book Dispensary: Mental Health touches everyone in one way or another, we should all remember this.
