Restaurant With A View

Most of us have driven past it countless times without ever stopping to explore, but the new managers of the Station Motel are set on getting the locals back. The first bait Ian and Karyn Wade-Parker have put out to attract people is an Indian buffet every Saturday night. “Our newly appointed professional chef prepares a different set of curries every Saturday, making all the food and sauces from scratch,” said Ian. “With his extensive experience in authentic Indian cuisine, Chef Guna does not use any packaged items.”

According to Ian many people assume all Indian food is hot, but he would like to encourage locals to try out the buffet that includes starters, two different curries, salads and dessert. Only ten years old, the Station Motel with its steel, glass and stone features, had unfortunately suffered some neglect under many different managers. Ian and Karyn, who both have extensive experience in running five-star hotels, believe they can bring life back to it.

Their first focus is the restaurant – being on the edge of town, it has a spectacular view that often includes kangaroos, horses and even sheep. “We have turned it from a café into a restaurant with a new menu, new wine list and proper table cloths,” said Ian. Be adventurous and try out the Indian buffet on your next free Saturday. If you
really do not like Indian, you can still order from the a la carte menu too!

Parkes Pharmacy will once again be administering the flu vaccination via our trusted and accredited pharmacists this year. These will be conducted in a safe and professional environment in our EasyClinic consultation room. And get this – you don’t need a script!

Why should you get a flu shot?

The flu causes about 3,500 deaths and 18,000 hospitalisations yearly in Australia. It is responsible for around 10 per cent of workplace sick days taken. The more people who get the flu shot, the less it can be spread through our community. The single most effective way to prevent the flu is to get vaccinated between March and May.

Who’s eligible?

Anyone above the age 18 years. If you are over the age of 65years,or pregnant,you are eligible to receive a free flu vaccination but you must see your GP to get it.

So how does it work?

All you have to do is call to make an appointment or come into store at a time most convenient to you. There is a consent form to fill out and a short waiting time, and once you’ve been jabbed, it is recommended that you stay in store and browse for 10 minutes in case of an allergic reaction. While you wait and browse around, you’ll receive a Double Dollars LifeClub voucher to use in store.

So don’t delay!

New Tractor Released In Red Centre

CaseIH and the Australian dealer network gathered in the Australian Red Centre for the release of the New CaseIH OPTUM CVT last month.

The Optum CVT series is the newest trac- tor family to CaseIH and Sincock LVM, en- gineered on the success of the Puma. Available in two models the Optum 270 and the 300 engine horse power with both models utilising the continuously variable transmis- sion (CVT). The Optum suits many applica- tions from tillage, spraying to the hay mar- ket.

Key features in the machine are the 6.7L engine designed as a joint venture between Cummins, CNH and Iveco. The engine has been widely used in the production of the Maxxum, Puma, Magnum, Patriot Sprayers and the Axial Flow Combines over the past years. The cab is all about operator com- fort. It is spacious with 5.9m2 of glass for the best vision so the operator has a bird’s eye view of all implements.

Shin Splints

With summer sports winding up and pre- season training for winter sports commencing, it is not surprising that today I saw my first case of shin splints (Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome), for this year.

Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome (MTSS) is the medical name for lower leg pain that occurs below the knee on either the front outside part of the leg (anterior shin splints) or the inside of the leg (medial shin splints). MTTS is a common injury seen in many running or jumping based sports for example, basketball, netball, football or hockey.

Shin splints most commonly occur when repetitive or prolonged activities place strain on where the muscles attach to the outside lining of the bone (tenoperioste- um). Put simply, the cause of MTTS can be summed up in four words: too much too soon. Athletes often first experience shin pain early in the season due to de-conditioning and when training surfaces are generally harder. Later in the season it can be caused by increased load or fatigue from over training and not allowing enough time for recovery between activities.

If you have shin splints stretch your calf muscles regularly through the day. Another good stretch is to kneel on a carpeted floor with your legs and feet together and toes pointed directly back then slowly sit back onto your heels, pushing your ankles onto the floor until you feel tension in the muscles in your shin. Hold for 15 seconds then relax and repeat. When you return to sport, increase your load slowly and avoid run- ning on hills and hard surfaces until your pain goes completely.

Home Staging Adds Value

I have been very busy over the last few months staging a variety of homes for sale. Staging a home is very important and can add value to your property and thus give you more money in your pocket after sale day.

Staging works perfectly when a home is empty and unfurnished. It gives me a blank canvas to enter and create magic within that will have any prospective buyer simply falling in love with your home and thus wanting it to be their home.

An empty home is devoid of personality and the WOW factor and will not let that property to stand out from the crowd and create, no matter how good its bones are. It would not make a lasting impression on a prospective buyer.

With staging people hire my services and furniture for a specific period of time, usu- ally six weeks to entice a quick and profit- able sale from the marketplace.

It is simple and stress-free but the results absolutely speak for themselves.

Pictured right, are my favourite before and after images from a home staged last week in Dubbo. The clients and the real estate agent were so happy that I think a speedy sale could be just around the cor- ner. One home I staged last year in Orange didn’t even get to show its charm as it was snavelled up the first day it was listed for sale. It just looked that good!

Is Your Family Free Time Used Up By Screen Time?

Screen time is the time you spend each day using devices with screens like TVs, video consoles, smartphones and tablets. There are benefits and risks to screen time, so a healthy family lifestyle includes limits on daily screen time.

Child development experts recommend limiting children’s daily screen time as real life interactions with you and others are much better for your child’s wellbeing, learning and development.

• children under 18 months should avoid screen time, other than video-chatting

children aged 18 months to two years can watch or use high-quality programs or apps if adults watch or play with them to help them understand what they’re seeing
children aged 2-5 years should have no more than one hour a day of screen time with adults watching or playing with them
children aged 6 years and older should have consistent limits on screen time. These limits are about making sure your child enjoys lots of healthy, fun activities – both with and without screens.

Limits mean looking at the time your children spend on screens and making sure it doesn’t get in the way of sleep and activities that are good for their development, such as physical play, reading, drawing and social time.

Limits don’t mean you should stop your child from watching TV or playing video games.

These guidelines aim to help you manage your family’s media use. A good way is by creating a family media plan. Your plan could cover things like screen-free areas in your house, screen-free times, and programs and apps that are OK for your children to use.

Television, movies, video games and the internet can be a positive influence on your child, especially when you get involved and help your child make good choices and talk about what’s going on.

Weight Loss Depends On Your Personality Type

When it comes to diets, most Australians tend to over-think, have too high expectations and are anxious about failure – all of which can derail the best intentions.

CSIRO behavioural scientists have recently identified the dominant diet type among Australian adults, revealing why many people find it hard to maintain a healthy diet.

The CSIRO surveyed more than 28,000 Australian adults to identify the personality traits and behavioural patterns in relation to eating and weight loss.

They found there are five behavioural Diet Types with the over-thinking, anxious perfectionist the predominant type.

The Thinker tends to over-analyse every decision, set unrealistic expectations and give themselves little margin for error. This type is more prone to self-doubt, anxiety and stress, which can lead to over-eating and low success.

The research found Australians are mo- tivated to lose weight with nine out of 10 of the surveyed adults attempting to lose weight in their lifetime. About 50 per cent have made more than six attempts while almost 20 per cent has tried more than 25 times.

Even with this strong motivation and persistence to lose weight, obesity rates remain high.

The Diet Types program aims to address this gap by identifying a person’s psycho- logical characteristics which play a key role in improving diet success.

The most and least common of the five main diet personality types across the sur- veyed population were:

• The Thinker 41% – Overthinking and worrying about failure leads to stress which can derail diet progress.

• The Craver 25% – Craves delicious food and finds it hard to stop, leading to overeating in tempting situations.

• The Foodie 15% – Loves making, eat- ing and experiencing food.

• The Socialiser 15% – Flexibility is es- sential – you won’t let strict food restric- tions stifle your social life.

• The Freewheeler 4% – Makes spon- taneous and impulsive food choices, finds planning meals hard.

“If you have struggled to maintain your diet after a few weeks, your personal diet type will shed light on what behaviours and habits are creating a barrier for you,” CSIRO Behavioural Scientist Dr Sinead Golley said.
