May 6, 2022 By Maggi Barnard

Tradie of the Month winner Craig Gould receives his prize from TWW’s Shann Kriedemann.

Craig Gould was picked as the first winner of the Tradie of the Month competition sponsored by Totally Work Wear. Craig works at Brian Collins Smash repairs and is also on call 24-7 for the Rural Fire Brigade. Congratulations Craig and we hope you enjoy your prize!

WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE TRADIE?

We are looking for new nominations for May’s competition sponsored by Totally Work Wear. For another five months we will pick a Tradie of the Month and the public is invited to nominate a tradie every month.

The winner each month will win a prize from TWW. “We would love to see male and female tradies being nominated,” said TWW Manager Laura O’Shannessy.

Simply send your nomination to us by email: editor@parkesphoenix.com.au stating the tradie’s name and workplace, or drop your nomination in at TWW. The closing date for this month’s nominations is Friday, 27th May.

Parkes Picnic Races Back This Year

February 12, 2021 By Maggi Barnard

Planning for the premier event on the Parkes and district social calendar is well underway.

The Parkes Coradgery and Diggers Pic-nic Races are scheduled for Saturday, 12th June. “The outbreak of COVID-19 created numerous challenges for our community, families and businesses, but we feel it is important that this important community event goes ahead,” said Stafford Orange or the organising committee. The race day will be a COVID–19 compliant event.

“We would like to thank all the patrons and generous sponsors for their support in the past and reassure all community members that the Parkes Picnic races will be bigger and better than ever this year.”

The spectator area is in great condition and the venue is now considered one of the best in the Central West with its renovated grandstand and covered bookies rink.

Over the years the June long weekend has become a ‘Back to Parkes’ weekend, with many residents opening their homes to friends and relatives. The weekend attracts visitors from all over the state, and interstate.

There will be food on offer from the Quota Club, utilising the canteen in the new renovated grandstand space. There will also be full bar facilities on course, and several commercial and private marquees providing food and alcohol. Mark the date in your diary for an afternoon of fun and entertainment.

Dr Karl’s Random Road Trip Through Science by Karl Kruszelnicki
In this book Dr Karl takes us on a weird and wonderful journey through the universe to track down the answers to questions you didn’t know you wanted to ask! Do fish drink water? Why do wombats poo cubes? Why does spaghetti always break into three pieces? Dr Karl makes science FUN and this book is filled with brilliant and funny illustrations.

DO YOU KNOW ABOUT OUR TALKING BOOKS COLLECTION?
Do you spend lots of time travelling in the car, truck or on the tractor? We have an extensive collection of talking books both fiction and non-fiction available for loan. One of our newest, read by the author, Kitty Flanagan, is: 488 Rules for Life: the thankless art of being correct. This is not a self-help book! What started as a joke on ABC’s The Weekly, 488 Rules for Life is Kitty Flanagan’s guide to modern behaviour. Whether it be walking and texting at the same time, reheating fish curry in the office microwave, or leaving one square of toilet paper on the roll, Kitty has advice on rules to make the world a better place.

A Blooming Bunch Of Happiness!

April 8, 2016 By Maggi Barnard

Autumn is a beautiful time for flowers! The cooler weather suits them perfectly and as a result they last much longer in the vase. Giving flowers is definitely one of the loveliest things you can do- they bring sunshine into a person’s day. Buying flowers for yourself however is a delicious luxury! This weekend at the Upmarkets in Cooke Park, Pink Orchid Florist will be encouraging you all to do just that- buy yourself a blooming bunch of happiness for the week ahead. We will have market bunches of flowers including dahlias, hydrangea, tulips, proteas and stock. We will also be taking orders for Mother’s Day and if you order on Sunday, we will throw in the delivery for free! Let your mum know just how much she matters and be organised at the same time, awesome! Pink Orchid Florist cannot wait to see you down at the Upmarkets this weekend so come and say hello and grab a bunch of happiness.
