Winner of the 2020 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist contest, Toki Toyokazu, represented Parkes Elvis Festival at the semi-final round during Elvis week in Memphis last week. Unfortunately, he didn’t make the final, but he was a wonderful representative at the international event.

 

After tickets sold out super fast in July, Grazing Down the Lachlan in Forbes had to be cancelled for 2021 due to COVID-19.

Jo-Anne Stevenson was one of the 40 volunteers who helped to plant 320 trees on Sunday.

Rebekah Auld, Parkes 2019 Showgirl, is calling on young women aged 18-25 to enter the Showgirl competition.

 

The footpath network in Parkes has been extended with a new path along Memorial Hill. It’s a great work out going up the hill.

 

Michael Hutchison and David Potts enjoyed a coffee after dragon boat training on Sunday.

 

Miss Lindy’s Garden was unveiled at the Parkes Early Childhood Centre recently in memory of Lindy Farrant who was involved with the centre for more than 30 years.

Torin Hando (left) received the Community Person of the Year award from Deputy Mayor Barbara Newton and Aunty Karen Hawken. Matty Price (right) from Parkes High School was named Youth of the Year.

 

The Parkes Rotary Club cooked the free bbq lunch with former President Mark Ritchie and current President Robert Shore hard at work.

 

Andrew Taggart and Sister Flo Kinsela were full of praise for the wonderful program to celebrate NAIDOC Week in Parkes.

 

The River Spirit Dancers with Tyrece Robinson, Blake Baxter (Wurrumarry) and Brad Holmes (Yarrangirri) performed some traditional dances.

The Parkes Under 14 representative team ended as runners -up in their field at the recent Forbes Gala Day.

 

The Parkes Under 12’s girls were very competitive and came away with a win in their last game.

 

The Parkes Under 12’s were up against some very competitive boys sides.

 

The Parkes Under 10’s team gained experience playing some very competitive sides.

Emily Cox received the 12 years and under encouragement award (adjudicators choice), while Grace Powley was awarded the most promising vocal soloist any age (adjudicators choice).

 

The Parkes Shire Concert Band members were very pleased with their win in the Open Band Section at the Forbes Eisteddfod. They played two favourite, contrasting pieces: Wombat Shuffle and Phantom. The band’s next performance will be on Saturday, 10th July at the NAIDOC festivities.

Tricia Trim (right) of the CSIRO Parkes Radio Telescope Visitors Centre presented prizes, generously sponsored by the Parkes Radio Telescope Visitors Centre, to the winners last week with the library’s Emma Brown (left).

 

Olivia Culhane won the Find A Book Challenge.

 

Jaxson Miller was a junior lucky draw prize winner.
