Thrilling Bowls Final On Cards

Two superb matches were played in the semi-final of the Championship Singles this week. Cherie Frame defeated Robyn Morgan by getting 3 points on the last end to win 25- 21. Maree Grant’s match against Brenda Davies ended with a final score of 25-20.

The final will be played next week with Cherie Frame versus Maree Grant – a game not to be missed. In other games played Chris Cox and Gwenda Carty defeated Isabel Svendsen and Flo Riseborough; Di Howell, Merilyn Rodgers and Frances Charlton defeated Valmai Westcott, Margaret Hawken and Marja Iffland, while Wendy Hendry, Maureen Miller and Minnie Riordan defeated Di Greenhalgh, Rosemary Mitchell and Joan Simpson.

Winners for the day were Chris and Gwenda and runner-ups Di, Rosemary and Joan. Raffle winners were Barbara Collier and Maureen Miller.

The No 4 Pennants teams will be travelling to Cowra next Tuesday to play the first round of pennants, and Thursday we play Parkes Railway Diggers at their club.

Major Singles Underway at Parkes Bowling Club

The Major Singles Championship started this week with some great bowling. In games played so far, Cherie Frame defeated Lorraine Baker 25-5; Brenda Davies beat Kim Evans 19-2 (declared); Robyn Morgan vs Gwenda Carty 27-11 and Maree Grant won on a forfeit from Liz Byrne.

The draw for next week is: Cherie Frame v Robyn Morgan – Marker Lorraine Baker; and Brenda Davies v Maree Grant – Marker Kim Evans.

Two games of social triples were played with Jean Kennedy, Wendy Hendry and Joan Simpson defeating Di Howell, Valmai Westcott and Betsy Johnstone.

In the other game Merilyn Rodgers, Chris Cox and Margaret Hawken defeated Maureen Miller, Frances Charlton and Rosemary Mitchell.

Winners for the day were Robyn and Minnie and the raffle winner was Brenda Davies. Next week there will be a trading table pick-a-box, so bring along your prizes please. Next week we will also celebrate Dee Melville’s 90th birthday with cake.

Parkes Women’s Bowling

Several bowlers enjoyed a great day of bowling this week. In the triples games Kim Evans, Rosemary Mitchell and Minnie Riordan had a narrow victory over Chris Cox, Di Howell and Gwenda Carty 12- 11, while Isabel Svendsen, Brenda Davies and Joan Simpson defeated Valmai Westcott, Margaret Hawken and Cherie Frame 20 -12.

Lorraine Baker, Frances Charlton and Robyn Morgan defeated Chris Curteis, Maureen Miller and Liz Byrne 18 -15.
In a pairs game Marja Iffland and Rhona Went were too strong for Merilyn Rodgers and Betsy Johnstone 29 -10.
Prize winners for the day were Marja and Rhona and runners-up Chris, Di and Gwenda.

The draw for the Club Championship Singles, on or before 13th February, is: Cherie Frame vs Lorraine Baker. Marker Audrey Jones. Robyn Morgan vs Gwenda Carty. Marker Minnie Riordan. Maree Grant vs Liz Byrne. Marker Brenda Davies. Brenda Davies vs Kim Evans. Marker Marja Iffland. Nominations for the CWD Singles are
open, names on board please.

The next Trading Table will be held on 20th February and will be a Pick-a-Box table with items being extra special please.

PARKES WOMEN’S BOWLING

This week Jean Kennedy, Betsy Johnstone and Liz Byrne defeated Lorraine Baker, Valmai Westcott and Robyn Morgan in a triples game. In the other triples game Merilyn Rodgers, Kim Evans and Frances Charlton got the better of Di Howell, Marja Iffland and Rhona Went. In a game of scroungers Brenda Davies defeated Minnie Riordan.

Women’s Bowling On Melbourne Cup Day

Members of the Parkes Women’s Bowling Club were all dressed up for Melbourne Cup Day, but still enjoyed playing bowls. In two pairs games, Valmai Westcott and Betsy Johnstone defeated Merilyn Rodgers and Robyn Morgan. Francis Charlton and Audrey Jones beat Lorraine Baker and Marja Iffland.

In a triples game Chris Curteis, Flo Riseborough and Kim Evans were the winners over Maureen Miller, Minnie Riordan and Brenda Davies. Winners on the day were Valmai and Betsy.

The Christmas trading table will be held on 14th November with pick-a-box prizes. Bring a friend along to play bowls, bring lunch and ring table selectors for friends to play. Christmas shirts and bling to be worn. The Presentation Day and lunch at a cost of $20 is on 12th December – please put your name on the board.

The minor pairs commence on 21st November with Eileen Bradley and Isabel Svendsen versus Lorraine Baker and Kim Evans; Marja Iffland and Maureen Miller versus Frances Charlton and Chris Curteis. To play social bowls please ring table selectors Kim Evans and Rosemary Mitchell between 8.30am and 9am. Social roster Flo Riseborough.

Kim Takes Club Minor Singles Title

In the final of the Club Minor Singles played this week, Kim Evans defeated Lorraine Baker 25 -14 in a very evenly played game. In other games played, Marja Iffland, Hilda McPherson and Liz Byrne defeated Di Howell, Frances Charlton and Rhona Went.

Merilyn Rodgers and Flo Riseborough defeated Chris Curteis and Minnie Riordan, while Jean Kennedy and Joan Simpson won the game against Isabel Svendsen and Betsy Johnstone.

Next week is Melbourne Cup day with Mufti clothes to be worn. The Club will be having Melbourne Cup lunch at $20 per head. Bookings by 3rd November please. The Christmas Trading Table will be 14th November with Pick-A-Box prizes. Wear Christmas shirts and bling. Bring a friend to play bowls.

Lorraine And Kim In Final

In the semi-final of the Club Minor Singles, Lorraine Baker defeated Frances Charlton 26 – 21 and Kim Evans beat Kate Keogh 27 – 13. Lorraine Baker will play Kim Evans in the final on 31st October.

In other games played Hilda McPherson, Rhona Went drew with Valmai Westcott, Robyn Morgan. Di Howell, Isabel Svendsen, Margaret Hawkin defeated Di Greenhalgh, Chris Curteis, Minnie Riordan 19 -15. Melbourne Cup Day is fast approaching and mufti dress to be worn on the day. There will be a Melbourne Cup lunch and sweeps.

The Christmas trading table is on 14th November with Christmas dress to be worn. Bring a friend and introduce them to the world of bowls. Please ring table selectors Gwenda Carty and Di Greenhalgh between 8:30am and

2017 Women’s Bowling Club Champions Fours Crowned

The final of the Club Championship Fours were played this week and was won by Elaine Miller, Brenda Davies, Rhona Went and Liz Byrne. They defeated Marja Iffland, Valmai Westcott, Gwenda Carty and Cherie Frame 27-24 in a great game.

In triples games played Di Howell, Jean Kennedy and Maureen Miller defeated Di Greenhalgh and Merilyn Rodgers. Lorraine Baker, Margaret Hawken and Kim Evans defeated Kate Keogh, Frances Charlton and Rosemary Mitchell.

The minor singles will commence on 10th October with the draw as follows:
Lorraine Baker v Eileen Bradley; Chris Curteis v Frances Charlton; Kate Keogh v Marja Iffland; Kim Evans v Maureen Miller.

The draw for the minor pairs:
Isabell Svendsen, Eileen Bradley v Lorraine Baker, Kim Evans; Marja Iffland, Maureen Miller v Frances Charlton, Chris Curteis.

Melbourne Cup day will be mufti dress, fun attire to be worn.

As daylight saving has commenced please ring table selectors Gwenda Carty and Di Greenhalgh between 8:30am and 9am, for play at 9:30am. Social roster is Laurie Keane.

Parkes Women’s Bowls

The first round of the Club Championship Fours start on 19th September. Kim Evans and Lorraine Baker will represent the club and district at the Taber Shield at Mudgee on 12th September. On 16th and 17th September, 14 women members are needed to play against the travelling bowlers from Cardiff. Play starts at 1pm on both days.
The Jones Trophy will be played at Condobolin on 14th September, and the Jones Shield on 28th September.

Bowls Club Triples Winners

The winners of the Parkes Women’s Bowling Club Championship Triples are Gwenda Carty, Rhona Went and Cherie Frame. They played Merilyn Rodgers, Marja Iffland and Maree Grant on Tuesday in a very closely contested game with the final score 16-13.
