Parkes Women’s Bowling Club

This week Merilyn Rodgers defeated Di Howell. In triples Gwenda Carty, Flo Riseborough and Minnie Riordan defeated Carol Reid, Frances Charlton and Rhona Went. Di Greenhalgh, Kim Evans and Robyn Morgan defeated Lorraine Baker, Maureen Miller and Cherie Frame. In a pairs Chris Curteis and Liz Byrne defeated Kay Craft and Maureen Baillee.

The draw for the Club Championship Singles on or before 19th February are: Cherie Frame bye; Robyn Morgan v Lorraine Baker marker Joan Simpson; Liz Byrne v Brenda Davies marker Cherie Frame; Gwenda Carty v Kim Evans marker Minnie Riordan; Maureen Miller v Elaine Miller marker Isabel Svendsen; Pat Cooney v Maree Grant marker Flo Riseborough; Rhona Went v Jan McPhee marker Audrey Jones.

Minors Pairs Winners Heather And Jan

The final of the minor pairs was played this week with Heather Harvey and Jan McPhee defeating Di Howell and Lorraine Baker in a thrilling match to the end. The enthusiasm and skill displayed by our newer members were inspiring to see. Congratulations to all.

A great day of bowling was enjoyed on Tuesday by all members with triples games played.

Di Greenhalgh, Merilyn Rodgers, Maureen Baillee defeated Chris Curteis, Hilda McPherson, Marja Iffland. Kay Craft, Margaret Hawken, Rhona Went defeated Ann Wright/Helen Heraghty, Audrey Jones, Joan Simpson.

Maureen Miller, Kim Evans, Betsy Johnstone defeated Eileen Bradley, Minnie Riordan, Brenda Davies. Chris Cox, Kate Keogh, Liz Byrne defeated Lea Orr, Frances Charlton, Rosemary Mitchell.

Winners for the day were Chris, Kate and Liz. Runners-up Di and Lorraine. Please put your name on the board to play in Pennants next year; and for the Rose Trophy to be played in our district next year. This is a new competition between our district clubs and the trophy has been donated by President of CWD, Heather Hoad, in memory of her husband. Our presentation and Christmas Party will be held on 11th December. Names of players and non-players must be put on board. All prize winners must wear club uniform. The second round of the minor singles was played this week with Jan McPhee defeating Lorraine Baker and Frances Charlton defeating Di Howell in great games. The final will be played on 13th November with Jan McPhee vs Frances Charlton.

The draw for the minor pairs are: Chris Cox, Francis Charlton vs Jan McPhee, Heather Harvey. Di Howell, Lorraine Baker have a bye. The minor pairs will be played on 20th November. Next week is Melbourne Cup day with casual dress. Lunch available at the club for $20. Our Christmas Trading Table will be on 20th November.

In games played this week, Flo Riseborough, Joan Simpson defeated Rosemary Mitchell, Gwenda Carty. Robyn Morgan, Maree Grant defeated Heather Harvey, Maureen Baillee.

Carla Iffland, Marja Iffland, Kate Keogh defeated Kay Craft, Valmai Westcott, Brenda Davies. Merilyn Rodgers, Kim Evans, Minnie Riordan defeated Dale, Hilda McPherson, Rhona Went. Our winners for the day were Carla, Marja
and Kate. The runners-up were Dale, Hilda and Rhona. Kay Craft won the the raffle of a box of fruit.

Fun Charity Day At Bowling Club
The Farmers Charity Day is on at the Parkes Bowling and Sports club this Sunday from 12pm with bowls, futsal and fun galore.

There will be fantastic prizes to be won in the raffle – tickets available at bar, remember every ticket helps – and a Silent Auction with many donated items. Come and help to raise much needed funds for the farming community and have a great social day. Cost is $20 including lunch.

The Parkes Women’s Bowling Club won the Cannon Merritt trophy against the Forbes Women’s Bowling Club recently. They are (L-R) Lorraine Baker, Kim Evans, Marja Iffland, Di Howell, Merilyn Rodgers, Rosemary Mitchell, Maureen Miller and Jan McPhee.

Two matches in the Club Championship Fours were played with E Miller, B Davies, R Went, L Byrne defeating M Iffland, V Westcott, G Carty, C Frame in a hard fought game.

J McPhee, H Harvey, L Baker, K Evans defeated M Rodgers, L Orr, M Grant, P Cooney in a great game.

Next week will see the final played between E Miller, B Davies, R Went, L Byrne versus J McPhee, H Harvey, L Baker, K Evans. It will be a great match to watch.

In social matches played H McPherson, A Jones had a draw with F Charlton, M Hawken. I Svendsen, F Riseborough, M Riordan defeated D Howell, C Cox, R Mitchell in a triples game.

The Central Western District won the Taber Shield played at Blayney last week with four teams from each district competing.

The first round of the Championship Fours were played in blustery conditions on Tuesday with E Miller, K Keogh, R Went and L Byrne defeating M Miller, M Riordan, M Hawken and A Jones.

The draw for the second round on 18th September are: M Rodgers, M Iffland, L Orr, M Grant vs J McPhee, H Harvey ,L Baker, K Evans; and M Iffland, V Westcott, G Carty, C Frame vs E Miller, K Keogh, R Went, L Byrne.

Nominations for the minor singles and minor pairs are now open.

The Jones Shield will be played at Condobolin on Thursday, 20th September.
Team 1: D Howell, M Miller, M Iffland and Davies. Team 2: M Rodgers, H McPherson, G Carty, M Riordan; Manager M Iffland.

A Parkes team will be travelling to Blayney this week to compete in the Taber Shield, we wish them luck! Bowlers are needed to play at 1pm on Saturday, 22nd September as a large group of bowlers from Belrose will be here. To play social bowls ring Brenda Davies and Di Howell between 9am and 9.30am on 6862 1446.

Kay Craft, Audrey Jones, Gwenda Carty def Jan McPhee, Valmai Westcott, Maureen Baillee; Lea Orr, Merilyn Rodgers, Margaret Hawken def Ros Taylor, Marja Iffland, Minnie Riordan; and Lorraine Baker, Kate Keogh, Betsy Johnstone def Maureen Miller, Frances Charlton, Rhona Went.

A game of consistency with Di Howell, Eileen Bradley and Brenda Davies with Brenda the winner. Winners for the day were Kay, Audrey and Gwenda and runners-up Ros, Marja and Minnie.

The $30 meat tray raffle from Forbes Central Butchery was won by a Margaret Hawken. The next Trading Table is on 18th September and will be pick-a-box prizes. The draw for the Club Championship Fours to be played Tuesday, 11th September are: M Miller, M Riordan, M Hawken, A Jones v E Miller, B Davies, R Went, L Byrne. The following teams have a bye: J McPhee, H Harvey, L Baker, K Evans; M Iffland, V Westcott, G Carty, C Frame; and M Rodgers, L Orr, M Grant, P Cooney.

20 Teams at Classic Triples

Excellent bowls were played at the Parkes Classic Triples Tournament last weekend. There were 20 teams from as far away as Towadgerie, Lake Cargelligo, West Wyalong and Mudgee. The trying windy conditions added to the skills needed.

The first prize went to West Dubbo with 4 wins +47. Second prize went to Parkes/Forbes team of Jan Waugh, Kim Evans and Pat Cooney with 4 wins +41. Mudgee came third with 3 wins +61, and fourth prize went to Liz Byrne Parkes with 3 wins +45.

It was a magnificent team effort by our members in catering and cleaning, ensuring the day ran smoothly. It was much appreciated by all.

A few brave ladies played social bowls this week in slightly improved conditions. A long end played was won by Di Howell. In two games of pairs played, Di Greenhalgh and Liz Byrne defeated Ros Taylor and Merilyn Rodgers.
Kay Craft and Gwenda Carty defeated Di Howell and Marja Iffland.

There will be no official bowls played on the Parkes Show Day next week, but anyone can turn up and play if they wish.

PARKES WOMEN
Club Championship Triples: Gwenda Carty, Maureen Baillee (sub for Cherie Frame) and Rhona Went defeated Merilyn Rodgers, Marja Iffland and Maree Grant. Betsy Johnstone, Brenda Davies and Liz Byrne defeated Minnie Riordan, Audrey Jones and Joan Simpson in a very close game 14 – 13

Next week the final will be played with Gwenda Carty, Cherie Frame and Rhona Went against Betsy Johnstone, Brenda Davies and Liz Byrne.

Other results: Kay Craft and Lorraine Baker defeated Di Greenhalgh and Maureen Miller. Frances Charlton and Rosemary Mitchell defeated Jan McPhee (twice). Di Howell, Margaret Hawken and Kim Evans defeated Valmai Westcott, Chris Curteis and Elaine Miller. Members will be travelling to Manildra, Trangie and Blayney to represent our club and enjoy playing other towns.

Perfect Weather For Bowls

Parkes Women’s Bowling Club 24th July 2018

Perfect conditions on Tuesday saw our members enjoying a great day of bowls. In two games of pairs Maureen Miller, Rhona Went def Marja Iffland, Merilyn Rodgers. Valmai Westcott, Joan Simpson def Chris Cox, Margaret Hawken.

In triples Kay Craft, Flo Riseborough, Brenda Davies def Jean Kennedy, Audrey Jones, Frances Charlton. Heather Harvey, Chris Curteis, Maureen Baillee def Di Howell, Rosemary Mitchell, Minnie Riordan. Winners for the day were Heather, Chris and Maureen; runners-up Chris and Margaret.

Our Fours team playing at Gulgong were defeated 22 -14 Well done to our players.

The Pairs team are playing on Wednesday, Good Luck to them. The draw for the second round of Club Championship Triples to be played on 31st July as follows: Merilyn Rodgers, Marja Iffland, Maree Grant v Gwenda Carty, Cherie Frame, Rhona Went. Betsy Johnstone, Brenda Davies, Liz Byrne v Minnie Riordan, Audrey Jones, Joan Simpson.
