Established Player, New Patron

Three games of Pairs and a Triples game were played in great conditions this week. Hilda McPherson and Marja Iffland defeated Eileen Bradley and Audrey Jones. Lea Orr and Gwenda Carty defeated Lorraine Baker and Flo Riseborough. Kay Craft and Maureen Miller defeated Di Howell and Kim Evans. Frances Charlton, June Burgess
and Merilyn Rodgers defeated Jean Kennedy, Heather Harvey and Rosemary Mitchell.

Winners on the day were Kay and Maureen, and runner ups were Eileen and Audrey.

Club Championship Triples close on 9 July and matches will commence on 23 July. Our CWD Fours team will play in the Districts Playoffs in Orange on 23 July.

Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held this week with the Election of Office Bearers as follows. President – Merilyn Rodgers; Vice President – Maureen Miller; Secretary – Betsy Johnstone; Match Committee – Kim Evans, Marja Iffland, Brenda Davies; Selection Committee – Audrey Jones, Robyn Morgan, Di Howell; Committee members – Chris Curteis, Jan McPhee,  Minnie Riordan, Kay Craft, Lorraine Baker; Communications Officer – Rosemary Mitchell.

Central Western District (CWD) and Canobolas District will be amalgamating early 2020 and we will all be called Central West District.

We also have a new Patron of our club, Joan Simpson, who has played bowls at our club for the last 52 years and is still playing regularly. To play social bowls ring Table Selectors Gwenda Carty and Rhona Went between 9-9.30am.

Pavlovas To Bowl You Over

Four games of triples were played this week with Betsy Johnstone, Flo Riseborough and Liz Byrne defeating Carla Bishop, Hilda McPherson and Marja Iffland.

Ann Wright, Rosemary Mitchell and Lorraine Baker defeated Jean Kennedy/Eileen Bradley, Laurie Keane and Heather Harvey. Carol Reed, Valmai Westcott and Gwenda Carty defeated Kay Craft, Frances Charlton and Kim Evans. Di Howell, June Burgess and Cherie Frame def Lea Orr, Maureen Miller and Jan McPhee.

Winners for the day were Di Howell, June Burgess and Cherie Frame. Runners up were Kay Craft, Frances Charlton and Kim Evans. The raffle winner was Lea Orr.

Thanks to Lea Orr for the June birthdays Pavlova!

The CWD Mixed Pairs will be held this Saturday 29th June with Morning Tea at 8.30am.

Our Annual General Meeting will be held 2nd July at 1.30pm.

Women’s Bowls

The pleasant weather on Tuesday following a day of cold and rain saw two games of bowls played. In triples Frances Charlton, Maureen Miller and Jan McPhee defeated Di Howell, Merilyn Rodgers and Kim Evans in a well-fought game.

In a pairs game Rosemary Mitchell and Liz Byrne defeated Carol Reed and Marja Iffland/Brenda Davies when being 20-20 on end 20, they won with two shots on the last end.

Gwenda Carty, Maree Grant and Pat Cooney played in the CWD Triples in Canowindra in cold, rainy conditions but
were unsuccessful in the final.

Next week, 11th June will be a shared lunch for a special birthday. Please bring a plate of savoury food.

Nominations for the Club Championship Triples are open. Next Trading Table will be held on 18th June. On 29th June a CWD Mixed Pairs competition will be held so get your nomination in by 12th June. $7 per person as per normal CWD games.

Fantastic Fundraiser

The Parkes Women’s Bowling Club raised a magnificent sum of $1,211 at its Biggest Morning Tea fundraiser. “A very big thank you to all who attended and the wonderful helpers on the day. Remember the message from the day: Check your breasts and  regular mammograms. Early detection helps.”

This week’s bowls was played on a cool morning, but when the sun came out three games of triples were played. Merilyn Rodgers, Marja Iffland and Minnie Riordan defeated Carol Reed, Maureen Miller and Audrey Jones in a close game. Robyn Morgan, Liz Byrne and Rhona Went defeated Lorraine Baker, Kim Evans and Jan McPhee in another very close game, while Valmai Westcott, Hilda McPherson and Maureen Baillee defeated Frances Charlton, Di Howell and Rosemary Mitchell. Winners on the day were Valmai, Hilda and Maureen.

CWD Triples will be at Canowindra next week with several teams participating.

Shared Lunch on 11th June to celebrate a special birthday. On Saturday 29th June we will be hosting a Mixed Pairs competition, so get a partner and nominate by 12th June.

Parkes Women’s Bowling

Several members enjoyed playing bowls under blue skies on Tuesday. Five games of pairs and one triples game were played.

• Rosemary Mitchell and Maureen Miller defeated Kay Craft and Isabel Svendsen.

• Marja Iffland and Brenda Davies defeated Heather Harvey and Hilda McPherson.

• Robyn Morgan and Liz Byrne defeated Merilyn Rodgers and Jan McPhee.

• Carol Reed and Margaret Hawken defeated Lorraine Baker and Kim Evans.

• In the triples game Carol Heiles, Lea Orr and Rhona Went defeated Ann Wright, Frances Charlton and Di Howell.

Winners on the day were Marja and Brenda. Winner of our lovely Mother’s Day Raffle was Lorraine Baker.

Several teams will be playing in the CWD Pairs next week and we wish them luck.

The CWD Triples and Fours are being played soon, so put your name on board to play, please.

Our Biggest Morning Tea is on 21st May with many fundraising activities to help the fight against cancer.

Two Fantastic Semi-Finals

Two fantastic games were played in delightful weather in the semi-final of the Club Pairs. Gwenda Carty and Cherie Frame played amazing bowls to beat Rhona Went and Liz Byrne 18-10. Robyn Morgan and Maree Grant won against Maureen Baillee and Pat Cooney in another fantastic game. Scores were level to the 16th end when Robyn and Maree got 6 shots putting them in the lead. Maureen and Pat only lost by 19-17 on the last end.

Gwenda Carty and Cherie Frame will play Robyn Morgan and Maree Grant in the final next week.

In other social games played Carol Reed, Merilyn Rodgers, Joan Simpson def Frances Charlton, Jan McPhee, Hilda McPherson. Valmai Westcott, Chris Cox, Maureen Miller def June Burgess, Rosemary Mitchell, Kim Evans. Kay Craft, Di Howell/M Riordan def Jan Gray, Lea Orr. Winners on the day Carol, Merilyn, Hilda and runnersup June, Rosemary and Kim.

Parkes Women’s Bowling

Forbes proved too good for the Parkes Pennants team winning with a final score of 25 to 50. Next up is Canowindra on Thursday to decide the winner of the No 4 Pennants. Parkes needs to win both rinks.

Pennants Teams On A Roll

The Pennants teams of the Parkes Bowling Club are on a winning streak with a win against Forbes last week and another win and draw against Canowindra resulting in a score of 43 to 29. Well done to the players!

The teams have a bye on 28th March and then play home games against Forbes and Canowindra next week.
This week members enjoyed playing pairs games.
• Hilda McPherson, Heather Harvey defeated Maureen Miller, Joan Simpson.
• Lee Orr, Maureen Baillee defeated Chris Curteis, Rosemary Mitchell.
• Chris Cox, Valmai Westcott defeated Di Howell, Frances Charlton.

The first round of Club Pairs commences on 9th April with Chris Curteis, Elaine Miller vs Gwenda Carty, Cherie Frame.

The Easter Trading Table is fast approaching on 16th April and all members are requested to bring Easter eggs or chocolates for the raffles.

Great Turnout At Bowls

There were 24 bowlers enjoying beautiful conditions this week and having lots of fun. Triples results: Kay Craft, Marja Iffland, Liz Byrne def Di Greenhalgh, Valmai Westcott, Brenda Davies; Lea Orr, Maureen Miller, Joan Simpson def Margaret Hawken, Merilyn Rodgers, Robyn Morgan; Carol Reed, Rosemary Mitchell, Jan McPhee def
Chris Cox, Di Howell, Lorraine Baker; Chris Curteis, Kate Keogh, Maureen Baillee def Eileen Bradley, Hilda McPherson, Rhona Went.

Winners for the day were Carol, Rosemary and Jan, runners-up Eileen, Hilda and Rhona, and ‘60’ club winners Eileen, Valmai, Jan and Merilyn. Thanks to Lea Orr for the birthday cake to celebrate March birthdays.

In the CWD Singles played at Cowra this week Kim Evans got through to the second round, while Maree Grant and Liz Byrne were only defeated on their final ends with the scores being level. Thanks to our players and markers from our club who helped make a great day.

The final of the Club Championship Singles will be played on 19th March between Cherie Frame and Maree Grant. The Club Championship Pairs close 12pm on 19th March.

Pennants games commence on Thursday, 21st March against Forbes. The Pennant teams are Gwenda Carty, Kim Evans, Brenda Davies, Liz Byrne and Jan McPhee, Lorraine Baker, Robyn Morgan, Rhona Went. Good luck to our players.

The Trading Table will be held next week so please bring items for the table. The raffle prize will be a voucher for a Thai massage. To play social bowls please ring table selectors Maureen Miller and Audrey Jones between 8:30am and 9am. Social Heather Harvey.

Bowls Club Champs

The first round of the Club Championship singles was played this week with Maree Grant defeating Pat Cooney in an exceptional game of bowls with the score 25 – 24. In other games played Liz Byrne defeated Brenda Davies, Lorraine Baker defeated Robyn Morgan, Rhona Went defeated Jan McPhee and Gwenda Carty defeated Kim Evans while Elaine Miller won on a forfeit from Maureen Miller.

The draw for the next round to be played on or before 26th February is: Liz Byrne v Gwenda Carty, Cherie Frame v Lorraine Baker, Merilyn Rodgers v Elaine Miller, Maree Grant v Rhona Went. In a game of social pairs Carol Reid and Frances Charlton defeated Chris Curteis and Di Howell. The scroungers game saw Isabel Svendsen, Di Greenhalgh and Christine Cox enjoying good bowls.

The trading table was successful with members enjoying the day. Winners for the day were Carol and Frances. The raffle was won by Chris Curteis. To play social bowls please ring Table Selectors Rhona Went and Gwenda Carty, and
for social Margaret Hawken. All visitors and new members always welcome.
