Charity Day Huge Success

The annual Northparkes Mines charity golf day last Saturday was a huge success with 119 players contesting the 3 Person Ambrose event for the benefit of CanAssist.

Mitch McGlashan, Ben McNaughton and Dave Chambers recorded the day’s best scratch score of 11 under par 60 to make them clear winners.

In the handicap events Allan Sharpe, Craig Dillon and Michael Dellaca dominated with a great 58 nett, while the ladies team event went to Lesley Fisher, Colleen Staples and Glynis Conroy successful on 68 nett.

Toby Webb, Sam White and Aaron Buesnell with 60 5/6 nett took out the event restricted to teams with a mixture of handicapped and non-handicapped players.

The novelty events saw wins to Troy Thomson, Kaye Jones and Toby Webb in long drive competitions, while nearest the pin awards went to Richard Hamilton, Steve Edmonds, Ian Ward, Denis Howard and Ben McNaughton. The ladies’ awards went to Janelle Thompson, Colleen Staples, Frankie Cock and Margaret Hogan.

Tomorrow the men will contest the opening two rounds of the annual championships and the ladies will play an 18 hole Stableford.

District Golf Championships On Sunday

The annual Lachlan Valley District Golf As- sociation’s Championships and Pennants will be played at the Forbes Golf Club on Sunday.

The Parkes Golf Club has named a strong A Division Pennant team of Justin Sutton, Mitch McGlashan, Robert Hey, Peter Dixon, John Green and Steve Edmonds. The club will also field three B Division sides. The Parkes Veteran golfers will field two teams in that division. The club hopes it will con- tinue to dominate winning 18 of the past 19 years. The No 1 team consists of Robert Hey, Peter Dixon and Ian Phipps.

In the A Division Pennant a close tussle is expected between the district’s two heavy- weight clubs Forbes and Parkes, while the Condobolin and West Wyalong teams will be watched with interest.

In the individual championships played in conjunction, major interest will centre around the Betland brothers John and Ste- ve from Forbes and the Parkes duo of Mitch McGlashan and reigning Parkes champion Justin Sutton.

The championships will also be played in B and C Grade sections, as well as veterans and juniors.

Golfers Battle Weather On Charity Day

Despite extreme weather conditions a good field contested last Sunday’s Westlime/Ro- tary Charity Golf Day with 85% of the field completing the 18 holes battling strong winds and a deluge.

Major winners on the day were Robert Hey, Dean Powter and Warren Gardiner in the open scratch award surviving a count- back after recording a great 6 under par 65.

In the men’s 18 hole handicap victory went to Brian Hogan, Peter Picker and Ian Phi- pps on 56 5/6 nett. Runners up were Warren Blatch, Tim Burke and Tim Baker on 59 2/3 nett. The Ladies 18 hole handicap saw Sue Holman, Colleen Staples and Ann Jennings get the verdict after recording a 60 5/6 nett. The handicapped and non-handicapped section had Paul Thomas, Finni Latu and Brendan Chambers take the spoils just ahead of runners-up Brad Blanchard, An- thony Riach and Steve Nicholson, and third place going to Mick Smith, Robert Simp- son and Eddie Alexander. The final division strictly limited to non-handicapped players saw Glendon Hooper, Pat O’Connell and Ian Coombs get the spoils, while runners- up were Kap Pili, Matthew Wright and Phil

Consecutive Doubles To Rodgers

The highlight of last Saturday’s S & K Mann Carpet Cleaning April Monthly Medal was the consecutive monthly scratch and handi- cap victory by Veteran B Grade member Dub Rodgers.

He returned a very impressive 81 off the stick for a nett score of 69 – good reward for Dub who spends a lot of time at the club either playing or cleaning up the course.

In the A Grade scratch Mitch McGlashan also won back-to-back awards. He is a sure favourite in the Club Championships at the end of the month.

Tim Lasserre recorded the best handicap score of the day with a 65 nett.
In C Grade Laurie Wakefield returned a solid 90, while Finne Latu recorded 66 nett taking the grades handicap award.

Robert Cheney with a 71 nett took out the Veterans Medal, and John Green survived a countback from Dub Rodgers to win the Griffins Leading Edge Putting Edge Putting competition after both players recorded just 26 putts.

The ladies contested the Central West Glass Company 18 Hole Stroke round with the first Golf NSW Medal and Club Medal in conjunction. Lynne Guise fired a great 87 off the stick for a nett 71 to be the voucher win- ner, while junior golfer Kasey Fay-Rice took out the medal with a solid 74 nett.

Ball winners on the day went to Barbara Donnelly and Kasey Fay-Rice on 74 nett while Margaret Hogan snared the final ball on 75.

The annual Westlime/Rotary Charity Golf Day is on Sunday. It is a 3 person ambrose with a 10am shotgun start. Cost is $90 per team, all proceeds to Rotary charities.

Great Field Despite Conditions

An excellent field of about 80 men contested last Saturday’s Droughtbusters Tour Personnel’s 18 Hole Par event, which also acted as the first round of the Frank Donnelly Perpetual Trophy. B Grade golfer Rod Kiley lead the way
with a brilliant plus 5 score to be a convincing 4 shot winner in his grade, while junior golfer Lachlan Buesnell led the way in A Grade with an equally impressive plus 4 score line to edge out Matt Lawryk by a mere shot. In the C Grade visiting Cowra golfer Paul Smith cleaned up with a plus 1 score.

Ball winners on the day went to players on -2 on a countback. Nearest the pin awards: Michael Smith – Idlerite Tyrepower 1st hole; Mitch McGlashan – Griffins Leading Edge 4th hole and the Money Hole award.; Matthew
– Dirt Doctor Landscaping 6th hole; Wayne Powter -Harvey Norman 11th hole; John Murphy – Westlime 15th hole. Nearest the Pins in two shots winners were Dub Rodgers -Parkes Ready Mixed Concrete 9th Hole and Mitch McGlashan -PJL Group 18th hole.

The ladies contested an 18 Hole Stableford for Sue Holman’s trophy that saw Lynne Guise triumphant with 31 Stableford points, while ball winners went to Margaret Hogan on 25 points, Leone Stevenson 24 points and Cathy Kelly survived the countback on 23 points. The club conducted a highly successful Come and Try Day for juniors last Saturday with more than 80 juniors turning up.

Doubles To Rodgers And Stait

The Telescope Tyres & Batteries March Monthly Medal was contested in ideal conditions last Saturday. Excellent scores were turned out with Mitch McGlashan firing a brilliant 3 under par round of 68 to take the A grade scratch by seven shots. In the handicap section Robert Cheney showed his potential with a blistering 66 nett.

In the minor grades Dub Rodgers recorded a double in taking out the B grade scratch and handicap after firing an impres- sive 82 for a 67 nett. In the C grade Dale Stait recorded a blistering 86 for an equally impressive 67 nett.

In other awards Paul Thomas fired a solid 68 nett to take out the veterans division while Denis Howard required just 24 putts in winning the Griffins Leading Edge putting competition.

Ball winners from Saturday’s competition went to 68 Mitch McGlashan & Paul Thom- as, 70 Peter Picker, Luke Clarke, Richard Hutchison and Tim Burke, 71 Reg Davi- son, Brent Timmins, Sam Turner, Brian L. Hogan, Peter Bristol, Wayne Powter and John Pearce and surviving the countback on 72 were Lachlan Buesnell, Tony Evans, Troy Thomson and Mark Job.

Nearest the Pin awards: Matthew Ste- phenson 544cm – Idlerite Tyrepower 1st hole; Michael Dellaca 306cm – Griffins Leading Edge 4th hole, Robert Cheney 67cm – Dirt Doctor Landscaping 6th hole, Tim Burke 174cm – Harvey Norman 11th hole, Lachlan Buesnell 16cm – Westlime 15th hole, Peter Bristol 113cm – Parkes Ready Mixed Concrete 9th hole and Mi- chael Smith 128cm – PJL Group18th hole. Saturday’s 18 hole Stableford event also saw the first round of the Ethel Kenyon on a countback.

Tucker Takes Sportspower

Despite a large contingent of members travelling to Sydney to contest the annual Droughtbusters weekend of golf, a good field contested the Sportspower Parkes 18- hole Stableford last Saturday.

Renowned local sporting identity Wayne Tucker proved too strong for the field as he returned a solid 39 points to edge out Brent Timmins on a countback. Tucker came home the final 9 holes in a great 3 under par off his 19 handicap to record 21 points, while Timmins was equally impressive with 20 points.

The 2017 ladies golfing season started last Wednesday. Tomorrow the ladies will play an 18-hole Stableford for the Denise Charlton’s trophy.

The club and golf professional Daniel Newton will be conducting coaching class- es for ladies and senior men under Golf NSW incentives to encourage more ladies and men to get into golf.

Tomorrow members will contest the Tel- escope Tyres & Batteries March Monthly Medal in A, B and C grades with local ac- countancy firm Peter Woods & Associates supplying the trophies in the Handicap Sections. Griffins Leading Edge is spon- soring the putting competition, which will be played in conjunction.

Mayor And Hodge Pocket Summer Competition

The Parkes Mayor proved he could lead on the golf course too with his victory in the BWR Accountants and Advisors Summer Competition last Saturday.

A very good field contested the 5th and final round of the Summer Competition and Ken Keith won with an impressive 42 Stableford points.

In the overall competition, that saw players able to discard their worst two rounds, it was a clear 4-shot victory for the club’s most consistent golfer Jake Hodge. He returned scores of 43, 42 and 36 for 121 to finish ahead of Robert Hey with rounds of 40, 39 and 38 finished on 117 in the Stableford-based competition.

Ball winners went to 40 Steve Simpson and Ian Hendry, 38 Dub Rodgers, Cathy Kelly, Chris Goodie and Col Barker, 37 Wayne Parker, Ron Hetherington, Justin Sutton, Rod Kiley, Peter Picker and Rod Luyt, 36 David Whitfield, Michael Lynch, Jake Hodge and Reg Davison and surviv- ing the countback on 35 was Tim Lasserre. In the Nearest the Pin, Ian Hendry dominated as he took out both the Idlerite Tyre- power 1st hole at 611cm and the tough Westlime sponsored 15th hole 551cm from the flag.

The major jackpot on the Idlerite Tyre-power 1st hole was won by Mark Francis last week after it was revealed his tee shot finished just 20cm from the flag and not the reported 200cms.

In other awards Ian Phipps won the Griffins Leading Edge 4th hole at 483cm, which also earned him victory in the money hole award. The Dirt Doctor Landscaping 6th saw Bob Barter victorious at 570cm and David Whitfield’s 207cm won him the Harvey Norman 11th hole award.

The final two Nearest the Pins awards on the Parkes Ready Mixed Concrete 9th hole and the PJL Groups 18th hole, saw Ron Hetherington blast his 6 iron approach shot to within birdie range of 282cm of the flag on the Par 4, 9th hole. On the short 18th hole it was Tim Lasserre who claimed the win with just 15cm off the flag.
Members are reminded that effective immediately any golf ball won during Satur- day competitions must be collected from the Pro Shop operated by Daniel Newton.

Tomorrow’s competition is an 18-hole Stableford for the Sportspower of Parkes trophy, and on Sunday Parkes hosts the Round 4 matches of the Central West Pen- nants with the course closed from 7.30am to 1pm.

Three Up, One Down In Pennants

The Parkes Golf Club maintained its solid start to the Central West Golf Association’s Pennants series with three of the club’s sides recording convincing victories over Cowra last Sunday on a very hot and windy Bathurst Golf course.

The Division 1 side continued its winning way with a solid 3 and 2 victory. Justin Sutton, Mitch McGlashan and Robert Hey recorded victories, while Peter Dixon and Joey Van Opynen put up a courageous effort in going down narrowly.

Despite losing narrowly to Bathurst 3 and 2 in the first round, the Division 2 side bounced back with a convincing 4 and 1 win over arch rivals Forbes. Both Tim Burke

and Phil Barnard remained undefeated, while Steve Edmonds and Denis Howard also recorded convincing wins. Tom Casey suffered a narrow loss.

The talented no. 3 side completely up- staged Cowra with a convincing 4 and 1 victory with Colin Barker, Tony Hendry, Richard Hutchison and Peter Bristol all winning. Jake Hodge suffered his first loss. The no. 4 side suffered a whitewash loss, however hey have vowed to bounce back in this weekend’s clash with Duntryleague. The third round will be played on Sunday against Duntryleague at Cowra Golf Club.

Brilliant Start For Parkes Teams In Pennants

Extremely hot and humid conditions did not stop a good field of players to turn up for last Saturday’s S & K Mann Carpet Cleaning Monthly Medal.

In A Grade Mitch McGlashan continued his brilliant form when he fired a superb 3 under par 68 to record the day’s best scratch score, while Steve Simpson cleaned up in the handicap section with 76 off the stick for a 67 nett. He topped off a great day by also claiming the Griffins Leading Edge Putting competition with just 24 putts.

In the minor grades Colin Barker claimed the B Grade scratch award with a 12 over par 83, and in the handicap it was Mayor Ken Keith with a solid 68 nett. In C Grade for players on handicaps of 18 plus, Gordon Christie fired 90 off the stick, while John Pearce topped the leader board with a 70 nett. The veterans award went to Gordon Christie with a 71 nett.

The Ladies Leone Stevenson led home a small field with an improved 73 nett.

The Parkes Golf Club hope to continue its brilliant start to the Central West District Golf Associations Pennants when Round 2 matches will be played at Bathurst Golf Club against Cowra on Sunday.

Last week’s Round 1 matches saw the locals victorious in three divisions against Forbes, while the no 2 division went down narrowly to Bathurst.
