Donald Chisholm

How long have you lived in Parkes?
About 20 months. Before that, we were in Wellington, Cowra and South Australia.

What do you like about Parkes? First impressions are the cleanliness, the friendliness, and that it’s a very progressive town.

Where do you work? I co-manage the Astro Dish Motor Inn with my wife Valerie.

What do you enjoy most about your work? Meeting such a variety of people, and becoming friends with the regulars.

What do you do with your free time? I go to Rotary and Lodge.

How do you like your coffee? I don’t drink coffee – I drink just black or green tea, no sugar.

What makes your day? Getting the rooms stripped and the laundry done early!

If you could go anywhere in the world on holiday, where would it be? Probably skiing at Sun Peaks in British Columbia, Canada. We had a wonderful holiday there before we came to Parkes.

How long have you lived in Parkes? All my life – I went away for a little bit but then I came back.

Where do you work? Colouby Creations.

What do you enjoy most about your work? The people that come in, the flexibility of working in my own business, and the support from local shoppers.

What do you do in your spare time? I like to do creative things, like crochet, cake decorating – but most of my spare time is travelling with the kids for their scooter riding.

How do you like your coffee? I don’t drink it, I’m a tea girl.

What makes your day? Seeing people happy, waking up each day knowing my kids are happy and healthy.

If you could go anywhere in the world on holiday, where would it be? I’m a bit of a vintage lover, so I’m really looking forward to going to Dapper Day at Disneyland for my 40th – it’s all 40s, 50s and 60s

themed, I’m really looking forward to that.

What is your favourite thing about Spring?

qow-hayley-wade

Hayley Wade: It’s not too hot, it’s not too cold, it’s the perfect weather. It is also nice with all the pretty flowers starting to come out.

qow-codie-wakefield

Codie Wakefield: The days are getting longer and warmer, the nights are cool, not cold. And maybe now my flower garden will start to flower, it’s been getting plenty of water.

qow-courtney-james

Courtney James: I love the canola (because I don’t get hay fever), I love driving and seeing the fields full of yellow with the sun coming out. It’s the perfect time of year.

How long have you lived in Parkes? I moved here two years ago from Sydney.

Where do you work? With my parents at Smeaton’s Bakehouse.

What do you enjoy most about your job? Customer interaction – it is the most satisfying part of hospitality work, and when you try out new products and get good feedback about it.

What do you do in your spare time? I enjoy watching sport and movies, and often go back to Sydney to catch up with friends.

How do you like your coffee? It depends on the day and my mood. After making coffee for 20 years, I mostly enjoy a latte standard with no syrup and little sugar not to bastardise the flavour of the coffee.

What makes your day? I am a fairly optimistic person and usually wake up in a good mood and have a good day, so I don’t need something to make my day. It is special though when customers say they like what we do.

What is your favourite food? I enjoy any food that has been made with effort and love!

What do you love about Op Shops?

Beryl&Carol

Beryl Watson & Carol Schmidt: We like finding good clothing, sometimes a little bit of china. It’s affordable and you never know what you’ll find.

DianneStuart

Dianne Stuart: The clothes are affordable, and you can usually find what you want. It’s especially great for things like book week at school, where you need to find something a bit different.

BrettLamb

Brett Lamb: I work at the Salvo’s store because I really enjoy being able to help people out. There’s no competition between the local op shops, they’re all really supportive of each other.
