Our Young Gal – Lexi Herden

July 16, 2021 By Maggi Barnard

Captain Parkes Christian School – Lexi Herden

How old are you? 11 turning 12

Where do you go to school? I go to Parkes Christian School.

What is your favourite after school activity? Dancing

What is your favourite food, movie and music? My favourite food is REAL Mexican tacos, my favourite movie is Annie the original and my favourite piece of music is called Palladio by Karl Jenkins.

What do you want to do when you grow up? I want to be a soldier and zoologist that works in the aquarium training dolphins to dance.

If you could have a super power what would it be? Invisibility.

What makes you laugh the most? When our pet birds laugh and also when I look back at silly things that happened when I was younger.

If you were the ruler of your own country, what would be the first law you would introduce? That there should be a Kids Day like mothers and fathers day and the kids can act like parents for a day.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself. I argue with my animals like I do with my brother except in their language. Like sometimes my bird Freddie yells at me and bites me while rubbing his beak up against the cage so I squawk back at him rub my head against the cage and tap his beak.

Who had the best time at the NAIDOC Week celebrations on Saturday?

July 16, 2021 By Maggi Barnard

Beau and Tyler Hando thought the hot chips were the best.

Four-year-old Ellie and Andie Fitzpatrick, who caught the eye with their colourful outfits, enjoyed their lollies.

Neveah Pritchard and Harmony Dowling came on their bicycles and enjoyed their sausage sandwiches while waiting in the face painting line.

Do you have a favourite animal at the Taronga Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo?

July 9, 2021 By Maggi Barnard

Enter our competition below to stand a chance to win a family pass to the zoo to see Sabi and all the other amazing animals.

Meerkats are very popular and look cute and cuddly, but they are capable of killing a cobra! The meerkat troupe attracts a lot of fans.

This is Sabi, a critically endangered black rhino calf, born in February at the Dubbo Zoo. With only around 6,000 black rhinos left in the wild, Sabi’s birth this year is a big part of the effort to protect the animal.

Each zebra has a unique pattern of stripes, as individual as a human’s fingerprint. At Taronga you can study their stripes from up close.

Our Young Bloke – Samuel Pearce

July 9, 2021 By Maggi Barnard

What is your favourite food, movie and music? My favourite food is pizza and sausage rolls. My favourite movie is the Karate Kid and my favourite music is the late 2000s music.

What do you want to do when you grow up? When I grow up I want to be either a farmer or a firefighter.

If you could have a superpower what would it be? Either the power of speed or the power of invisibility.

What makes you laugh the most? It would probably be comedians like Rowan Atkinson.

If you were the ruler of your own country, what would be the first law you would introduce? Probably no smoking.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself. I like to read books and play sport.
