Thursday afternoon Hockey NSW held 2 goal keeper clinics with 35 keepers turning up to learn some new skills and practice before the big weekend ahead.

Huge congratulations to Molly Orr who has been selected into the NSW U13 Girls Squad after her impressive performance!

Well done Molly and good luck for the trials in Port Macquarie in two weeks time.

Congratulations also to all the young girls who have been selected in the Under 13 NSW Girls Squad this year.

The Executive committee would like to extend a massive thanks to Parkes Shire Council, Parkes Services Club, Sandvik, MCA, all of our amazing volunteers, clubs, members and parents who contributed to a highly successful weekend in Parkes.

Winning Determination

July 11, 2019 By Maggi Barnard

The first minutes of the match between the Parkes Boars and the Dubbo Rhinos last Friday were intense, as both sides were desperate to get the first points on the board. Rhinos struck first with a penalty goal, with Parkes soon striking back replying off the boot of Sam Davis. Scott Chislett, Jarrod Westcott and Jason Lowe took their turn to punch into the Rhinos defence.

Withstanding the pressure in the first 20 minutes, Parkes worked their way down the field and Rusiate Lawanikula put their first points on the board. Sam Davis converted from out wide and as usual Toby Baigent threw himself into the game hammering the opposition in attack and defence. By halftime Parkes had their nose in front 10-8 Early in the second half, Josh van der Stock’s repeated attacks broke through and made a 90 metre run to put Parkes on
the attack. The Forwards stepped up and a series of pick and drives by Jason Lowe and Michael Thomas built pressure with Dan Ryan capitalising for the Boars and Sam Davis again adding the extras.

The Boars had their chances to add to the score but fumbled on the line twice. Parkes thought they’d done enough, but Rhinos struck back desperate for a win and scored to take them within four points.

Parkes hung on to repel Rhinos for the last ten minutes to take out the much-needed win.

Best for Parkes – Toby Bagent, Rusi Lawanikula, Jarrod Westcott and Michael Thomas.

Dragons Pack Their Paddles Up

July 4, 2019 By Maggi Barnard

The Parkes Dragon Boat Club enjoyed a fun-filled final paddle of the season last Sunday, sharing the beautiful Lake Endeavour with 24 black swans and ending the session with a paddling tug-of-war.

“With the help of so many great members we’ve achieved a massive amount in our first year, including boats, trailers and equipment,” said Club President, Bill Thomas.

“But what we are most proud of is the strength in our membership and the real friendship among those members. It is a privilege to belong to this club.”

“We’ve also competed successfully in many events around the state, including representation at Nationals,” said current Coach Beth Thomas, “and I’m really proud of how this crew strives for continual improvement.”

The Club will recess for July and early August, meeting again at their scheduled AGM on 11 August at 11:00am, returning to paddling the following week. Anyone who is interested in Dragon Boating is warmly invited to attend the AGM at Parkes Services Club and join the members for a bistro lunch afterwards.

Fast Feet On The Court

June 27, 2019 By Maggi Barnard

Mother Nature certainly gave us a chilly morning this week with girls having to resort to dancing on the court to keep warm. It was very entertaining to watch such original dance moves from some of our division 2 girls. This week also saw for the first time this competition a couple of forfeits with numbers being low in both divisions. With this in mind, could players please let coaches know if you will be away as this will make it easier to organise teams each Saturday.

We would like to thank all of our beautiful girls who sub up every week to help out other divisions run smoothly. Not only do you give up your time you show great sportsmanship towards the teams your involved with.

This weekend will be the last round before our 3-week break for school holidays. Netball will be back on Saturday 27th July. To all families who are travelling, stay safe on our roads and have a great holiday.

Good luck to the Parkes Representative girls heading off to Sydney next weekend for the NSW Junior State Titles.

June 27, 2019 By Maggi Barnard

The National Parks Association of NSW runs the largest activities program in the state, with over 1,000 bushwalks led by an extraordinary team of knowledgeable and skilled volunteer leaders every year. At the Lachlan Valley Branch, an Autumn program of walks has been developed to cater for the average fitness level. Walks are graded Easy, Medium or Hard:

• Easy: Range between 5 to 10 kilometres. Mostly flat to slightly undulating topography. Walks are mostly on tracks or fire trails and of moderate distance. Suitable for those with a minimum level of fitness.
• Medium: Range between 5 to 8 kilometres. May be over moderate hills or rough terrain. May involve some off-track walking.

Walk may involve shorter distance overall due to rougher conditions. Suitable for an average fitness level.

• Hard: Range 5 or more kilometres. Walk may involve hilly or mountainous terrain, rough tracks, a trackless route or an extended distance. Walk suitable for above average fitness level.

All walks are subject to there being no adverse Rural Fire Service fire warnings at the time and no closure of the relevant State Forest due to hunting permits etc.

The next walk will be on Saturday 29 June at the Conimbla National Park, Wallaby and Ironbark Trails. Meet at Gooloogong Park at 9:15am. This is an 8km walk graded as Medium.

Walkers are reminded to bring along enough food and water for the entire day as well as suitable clothing, footwear, hat and sunscreen. A pair of good binoculars and a fold up chair is recommended.

Walk leader will be Peter Cannon, who can be contacted on 6866 1225. Please contact the walk leader the night before the walk if you intend to take part. A $2 donation for each walker is appreciated.
