Liz Bowls Her Name Onto Champions Roll

Rhona Went won the Parkes Women’s Bowling Club Singles this week. She played Liz Byrne in the final in a magnificently played game all the way with 24 -24 on the last end.

In other club news Parkes played Forbes this week in the No2 Pennants and won 37 – 30. The decider was played yesterday to determine the winner.

In a game of social triples, Flo Riseborough, Chris Cox, and Chris Curteis defeated Di Greenhalgh, Frances Charlton and Minnie Riordan.

Nominations for club championship pairs will close 21st March at 12pm. Nominations for CWD pairs will close on 7th April.

Next week Tuesday we will play a Scroungers competition with prizes to be won. The next Trading Table and Bring a Friend Day will be on 21st March. New players and visitors always welcome to play Tuesday mornings.

Club Championship Singles this week: Rhona Went def Gwenda Carty and Liz Byrne def Robyn Morgan. Rhona Went will play Liz Byrne in the final on Sunday, 5th March.

A successful Trading Day was held and the raffle prizes were won by Joy and Gwenda. The new monthly Scroungers competition

has started and first prize went to Frances Charlton with 47 and second Marja Iffland with 45.

The CWD Singles close on 3rd March and will be played at the club from 3rd to 5th April. Club Championship Pairs will open on 7th March and close 12pm on 21st March.

Club Championship Singles: Gwenda Carty def Cherie Frame and Liz Byrne def Pat Cooney.

Line up for the second round to be played on or before 21st February: Rhona Went v Gwenda Carty, marker Cherie Frame; Liz Byrne v Robyn Morgan; marker Pat Coon- ey; Umpire Keith MacRae.

Nominations for the CWD Singles are now open and close 3rd March. They will be played at our club on 3rd, 4th and 5th April.

A new monthly point scoring competition will commence next week.

The Parkes Women’s Bowling Club held it’s annual presentation day recently. The following winners were recognised:
Club Championship Singles: winner – Pat Cooney; runner-up – Cherie Frame.
Club Championship Pairs: winners – Maree Grant and Pat Cooney; runners-up – Margaret Hawken and Audrey Jones.
Club Championship Triples: winners – Gwenda Carty, Cherie Frame and Rhona Went; runners-up – Betsy Johnstone, Brenda Davies, Liz Byrne.
Club Championship Fours: winners – Lorraine Heald, Eileen Bradley, Minnie Riordan and Audrey Jones; runners-up – Brenda Davies, Cherie Frame, Liz Byrne and Rhona Went.
Minor Singles: winner – Elaine Miller; runner- up Laurie Keane.
Minor Pairs: winners – Isabella Svendsen and Frances Charlton; runners-up – Laurie Keane and Marja Iffland.

Bowls will restart on 17th January 2017 with a trading table and shared lunch.

Thank you to our President, Minnie Riordan, and committee members for all their hard work throughout the year.

Parkes Women’s Bowling Club News…

In social games played this week Frances Charlton and Margaret Hawken defeated Maureen Miller and Minnie Riordan in a pairs game. Kate Keogh, Chris Cox and Audrey Jones defeated Eileen Bradley, June Burgess and
Betsy Johnstone in a triples game. Rosemary Mitchell, Flo Riseborough and Robyn Morgan defeated L Byrne and Marja Iffland in a triples game.

A long end was won by Eileen Bradley and winners for the day were Kate, Chris and Audrey. Our Presentation Day and Christmas lunch will be held on 13th December. To play social bowls please ring table selectors Betsy Johnstone and Audrey Jones. Social Roster is Isabelle Svendsen.

The combined charity day with the Parkes Railway Diggers was very enjoyable and successful. Ronald McDonald House will benefit from the day. Several pairs games were played and the winners on the day were Diane Greenhalgh
and Robyn Morgan with 2 wins plus 11 and runners-up were Audrey Jones and Elaine Bradley with 2 wins plus 7.
Winners of the spider prizes were June Burgess, Gwenda Carty, Diane Greenhalgh, Evelyn Gibson, Bev Ellis and Maree Grant.

The winner of the raffle was Gwenda Carty and second prize went to Diane Greenhalgh. Our Presentation Day and Christmas Lunch will be held on 13th December. Names on board please; lunch is $15. To play Social Bowls please ring table selectors Brenda Davies and Marja Iffland between 8.30am and 9am. Social roster is Merilyn Rodgers.

Our Christmas trading table was very successful with lots of happy winners of Christmas goodies. The raffle was won by Lyndall Bowen and Best Dressed was Ann Everett and Gwenda Carty. Winners for the day were Lyndall Bowen, Laurie Keane, Margaret Hawken. Triples games: Lea Orr, June Burgess, Joan Simpson defeated Lyn Ryan, Minnie
Riordan, Robyn Morgan. Diane Greenhalgh, Rosemary Mitchell, Gwenda Carty defeated Isobel Svendsen, Kate Keogh, Audrey Jones. Ann Everett, Frances Charlton, Cherie Frame defeated Robyn Baillee, Kath Hutchison, Maureen Baillee.

Lyndall Bowen, Laurie Keane, Margaret Hawken defeated Merilyn Rodgers, Marja Iffland. The Charity Day with Railway Diggers is next week. Play will start at 9am and two games will be played.

PARKES WOMEN’S BOWLING CLUB

Bring a friend to bowls on Tuesday for the Christmas Trading Table Pick a Box. Remember Christmas items for the table and dress in Christmas shirts. The Combined Charity Day with Parkes Railway Diggers is on 22nd November.
Bring a picnic lunch and sweets to be shared at lunch. Play starts at 9am with 2 games of 3 bowl pairs with 10 ends to
be played. Lucky door prizes and raffle – seven tickets for $5. The charity is Ronald McDonald House. Our Presentation Day and Christmas Party is on 13th December. Lunch is $15.

The Minor Pairs was played at the Parkes Women’s Bowling Club this week. It was a great game with the score tied on the last end(18th) at 17 – 17. An extra end had to be played to determine the winner. Isobel Svendsen and Frances Charlton got 1 point on the extra end and won 18 – 17 against Laurie Keane and Marja Iffland.

Parkes Women’s Bowling Club play every Tuesday morning. New bowlers and visitors are welcome. Contact the club on 6862 1446 for more information.

ZONE 4 INTER LAWNBOWLS DISTRICT SENIORS FOURS

The Inaugural 2016 Zone 4 Inter-District Seniors Fours Round Robin was held at the Dubbo City Bowling Club on the 16th and 17th of February. The six District teams competing were Central West, Far West, the Presidents Team, Central Blue Mountains, Western Districts and Lachlan Valley.

Each District Team had two sides, the two Central West Sides were; Brian Tisdell – Forbes, Geoff Williams – Condobolin, Wally Grant- Parkes Bowling and Sports and Mick Craft – Parkes Bowling and Sports, Col Hayward -Parkes Bowling and Sports, Keith MacRae – Parkes Bowling and Sports, Terry Hetherington- Parkes Railway
and Greg Howlett- Parkes Railway. At the end of the Round Robin Far West won with the Local Central West Team coming a close second. Two Central West bowlers were selected in the Zone 4 Seniors Fours

Team with Col Hayward as a Skip and Geoff Williams, the youngest District senior and probably the youngest Zone senior, as a Reserve. Also local Parkes identity and renowned bowls administrator, Steve Torrens, was appointed as the Zone 4 Team Manager.
