Eagles And Wildcats Claim Grand Finals

August 30, 2018 By Maggi Barnard

After a longer season than normal, the Parkes Junior Netball competition wrapped up Division 1 and Division 2 last Saturday. Division 1 was contested by Eagles and McGrath’s United, umpired by Lisa Nutley and Mel Evans. The two teams had very close games throughout the season, and the grand final was no exception. Eagles managed to take the win 19-12. Jorja Davis was awarded player of the grand final for her outstanding team play and positioning on the court. Eagles coach Calli Miller said:

“The girls just didn’t give up today, and they haven’t all season. I could not be happier with the end result.”
Division 2 saw two outstanding teams, Wildcats and Eagles, with the game umpired by Julia Dunn and Ally Bush. Wildcats came out victors, 22-10, with the player of the grand final awarded to Lucy Hall (Wildcats).

From the sideline, it was noted that all the girls played extremely hard, and they should all be proud of their efforts.
Congratulations to Lisa Nutley and Mel Evans getting their National C Badge on Saturday.

20 Teams at Classic Triples

August 23, 2018 By Maggi Barnard

Excellent bowls were played at the Parkes Classic Triples Tournament last weekend. There were 20 teams from as far away as Towadgerie, Lake Cargelligo, West Wyalong and Mudgee. The trying windy conditions added to the skills needed.

The first prize went to West Dubbo with 4 wins +47. Second prize went to Parkes/Forbes team of Jan Waugh, Kim Evans and Pat Cooney with 4 wins +41. Mudgee came third with 3 wins +61, and fourth prize went to Liz Byrne Parkes with 3 wins +45.

It was a magnificent team effort by our members in catering and cleaning, ensuring the day ran smoothly. It was much appreciated by all.

A few brave ladies played social bowls this week in slightly improved conditions. A long end played was won by Di Howell. In two games of pairs played, Di Greenhalgh and Liz Byrne defeated Ros Taylor and Merilyn Rodgers.
Kay Craft and Gwenda Carty defeated Di Howell and Marja Iffland.

There will be no official bowls played on the Parkes Show Day next week, but anyone can turn up and play if they wish.

Netball Season Ends With Inaugural Presentation Night

August 23, 2018 By Maggi Barnard

This weekend marks the end of the 2018 Junior Netball year after a fantastic round of preliminary finals last weekend. In Division 1, the 2nd vs 3rd preliminary final was extremely tightly contested, with United coming away eventual winners 17 to 16. United will play Eagles in the grand final with their victory of 28-15 over Wildcats.

Division 2 have had some stand out performances throughout the year with Wildcats taking the win over Galaxy 25 – 0. Wildcats will not have any easy game in the grand final as Eagles defeated United in the second preliminary final 13 – 6. United played extremely well all season, and Eagles have been outstanding too which should make the Division 2 grand final a very close game.

Last weekend was the final weekend for the non-competitive SetGo Division. A big thanks to all of the coaches, parents, carers and players who made this season such a success.

It was a fantastic year for the Net program. With 14 girls registered by the end of the season, it has been the most successful Net program to be held in recent years.

A big thank to Jane Cook for running the program each week, and all the parents who helped. Tomorrow night is the Parkes and District Netball Association’s inaugural presentation night. All players and interested people are welcome to attend. If you don’t have your tickets already, please contact the association as soon as possible.
